Paul Mellor (born 21 August 1974 in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played for four different Sydney NRL clubs and in Britain before retiring at the end of the 2007 season. He primarily played on the wing, or as a centre.
A South Sydney District Junior Rugby Football League from the Matraville Tigers Club, Mellor is the youngest Rabbitoh in history having made his first grade début at the age of 16 years and 10 months on 30 June 1991 against the Gold Coast Chargers.
Mellor played 17 seasons at the highest level, spanning 221 NRL games and scoring 90 tries. He played for South Sydney, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and Castleford in the UK. Mellor finished as South Sydney's top try scorer in the 1994 and 1996 seasons. Mellor played for Souths in their upset 1994 Tooheys Challenge Cup final victory over Brisbane. [2]
Whilst at Cronulla, Mellor was part of the 1999 Cronulla side which won the minor premiership and were one of the favourites to take out the competition before losing to rivals St George in the preliminary final by a score of 24-8 at Stadium Australia. Mellor would go on to experience further preliminary final heartbreak with Cronulla in 2001 and 2002. [3]
Mellor signed for Castleford for the 2003 and 2004 season of Super League. Mellor was utilised in the centre and second row but in the 2004 season moved to the wing and improved his form.
Mellor played his final game of Rugby League in the 2007 Qualifying Final against the Manly Sea Eagles on 8 September 2007 at Brookvale Oval, electing to retire from the game at the conclusion of the 2007 season. [4] [5]
Since retirement from playing, Mellor took up refereeing. He regularly appears as the video referee in NRL matches. [6]
Mellor does a lot of work with South Sydney Juniors, helping to bring through the next generation of young players. He also helps coach his sons' teams in the Cronulla junior league.
Mellor was schooled at Marist Brothers in Pagewood, completing his Higher School Certificate before studying a Bachelor of Human Movement at the Australian Catholic University. He has also completed a level strength and conditioning course through the Rabbitohs.
David Peachey is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. An Australian international and New South Wales representative fullback, he played the majority of his club football in the National Rugby League for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. During his career, Peachey also played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs of the NRL and the Widnes Vikings in the National League One. Peachey also played representative rugby league for Country Origin. He is an Indigenous Australian. His nephew Tyrone Peachey debuted for the Cronulla Sharks but currently plays for the Penrith Panthers.
Brett Howland is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played for the Penrith Panthers in the National Rugby League competition. He previously played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks but was forced out due to the salary cap. His position of choice was at wing, although he was also known to play at fullback.
Russell Richardson is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000. An Australian international representative centre, he played his club football for the Newcastle Knights, South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the National Rugby League competition.
Roy Asotasi is a former professional rugby league footballer who played as a prop in the 2000s and 2010s. A New Zealand international captain, he also played for Samoa. Asotasi played in the NRL for Australian clubs Canterbury-Bankstown and the South Sydney Rabbitohs from 2007 to 2013. He then played in the Super League for the Warrington Wolves.
Colin Best is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. He played primarily in the National Rugby League as a wing or centre for Australian clubs, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, St. George Illawarra Dragons, Canberra Raiders and South Sydney Rabbitohs. Best also played in the Super League for English club, Hull FC.
Paul Franze is a former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer. He played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and the Penrith Panthers in the NRL, and for the Castleford Tigers in the Super League, Gateshead Thunder in the Championship and Pia Donkeys in the Elite One Championship as well as a stint as a rugby union player for the London Irish in the Guinness Premiership. In both codes, Franze primarily played as a centre.

Luke Lewis is an Australian rugby league commentator and former professional rugby league footballer who played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and the Penrith Panthers in the National Rugby League (NRL) and Australia at international level.
Luke Stuart is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League (NRL). He played as second-row. Stuart joined South Sydney when they re-entered the NRL competition in 2002.
