Paul R. D'Amato (born July 19,1947) is an American lawyer Republican Party politician who represented the 2nd Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2002 until he resigned in May 2003.
A resident of Linwood,New Jersey,D'Amato was born in Atlantic City,New Jersey,and graduated from Atlantic City High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Mary College in 1969 and was awarded a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1974. He became mayor of Linwood starting in 2000. [1]
With incumbent Kenneth LeFevre not running for re-election,D'Amato was chosen by Republicans to take his place. [2] D'Amato,running together with Republican incumbent Francis J. Blee,defeated Democrats Dianna W. Fauntleroy and Fred Scerni in the 2001 New Jersey General Assembly election. [3] He resigned from office on May 16,2003,and his vacant seat was filled by Kirk W. Conover,who was serving on the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders. [4]

Linwood is a city in Atlantic County,in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census,the city's population was 6,971,a decrease of 121 (−1.7%) from the 2010 census count of 7,092,which in turn reflected a decline of 80 (−1.1%) from the 7,172 counted in the 2000 census.

The 2017 New Jersey General Assembly elections were held on November 7,2017,to elect members to all 80 seats of the New Jersey General Assembly. Prior to the elections,Democrats held a 52–28 majority in the lower house. Overall,the Democrats increased their majority by 2 to a super-majority at 54–26,due to holding all their seats as well as picking up open seats in District 2 and District 16. This tied Democrats for their largest majority since 1979.
The 1981 New Jersey State Senate elections were held on November 3. The New Jersey legislature reapportioned its state legislative districts in advance of the 1981 election. The new districts resulted in many senators running for re-election in newly re-numbered districts. The election coincided with a tightly contested gubernatorial election between Thomas Kean and James Florio. Republicans gained five seats,narrowing the Democratic majority to 22-18.
