Paul Sellew (born 1957) [1] has built a career on his belief in sustainable agriculture. He is the founder and CEO of Little Leaf Farms. [2]
His first job on his family’s nursery paved the way for Sellew’s later career path in greenhouse horticulture. While working on the farm, Sellew’s first company Earthgro was inspired by an abundance of organic waste from nearby farms and turning these resources into high quality growing media. [2] He also played professional basketball in Europe and South America for three years. [3]
Three years after graduating from the Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Sellew founded Earthgro, Inc. in 1983. [1] Sellew has also founded and led environmentally conscious companies such as International Process Systems, Environmental Credit Corp., Backyard Farms, and Harvest Power. Sellew has served on the Board of Directors for the US Composting Council.
In 2015, Sellew founded Little Leaf Farms in Devens, Massachusetts. Built around employing high tech hydroponic greenhouse technology Little Leaf Farms grows millions of pounds of leafy greens each year using rainwater for irrigation, natural sunlight, and producing a product free of chemical pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. [2] Little Leaf Farms now operates greenhouses in both Devens, Massachusetts and McAdoo, Pennsylvania [4]

Fort Devens is a United States Army Reserve military installation in the towns of Ayer and Shirley, in Middlesex County and Harvard in Worcester County in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. Due to extensive environmental contamination it was listed as a superfund site in 1989. Most of the fort's land was sold off in 1996, but the cantonment area of the post was retained by the Army as the Devens Reserve Forces Training Area (RFTA). Fort Devens was reactivated in May 2007, though no units of active Army have been located there. The Devens Range Complex operates on property in Lancaster, south of Route 2, for live-fire training with small arms, machine guns, grenades, and rockets.

New York Sun Works, founded in 2004 by Ted Caplow, is a non-profit organization that uses hydroponic farming technology to educate students and teachers about the science of sustainability. To further this goal, NY Sun Works created the Greenhouse Project, an initiative dedicated to improving K through 12 grade environmental science education through the lens of urban agriculture, empowering children to make educated choices about their impact on the environment. Theodore "Ted" Caplow is an American social entrepreneur, environmental engineer, and inventor. He is the founder of greenhouse science lab provider New York Sun Works and the co-founder of AgTech supply-chain disruptor BrightFarms. Caplow's pioneering work in urban agriculture and vertical farming began with the Science Barge in Yonkers, New York (NY). Caplow has also patented a Vertically Integrated Greenhouse. Caplow subsequently co-founded Caplow|Manzano in 2017 with Nathalie Manzano to pursue innovations in resilient housing design and sustainable building technology. As an academic, Caplow holds a Ph.D. in engineering from Columbia University and has published a series of peer-reviewed articles on water contaminant dynamics in the Hudson River Estuary, in addition to articles on Building-integrated agriculture.
Agrivoltaics,agrophotovoltaics,agrisolar, or dual-use solar is the simultaneous use of areas of land for both solar photovoltaic power generation and agriculture. The coexistence of solar panels and crops implies a sharing of light between these two types of production, so the design of agrivoltaic facilities may require trading off such objectives as optimizing crop yield, crop quality, and energy production. However, in some cases crop yield increases due to the shade of the solar panels mitigating some of the stress on plants caused by high temperatures and UV damage.
