Pegas 2000 SRO is a Czech aircraft manufacturer based in Prague. The company specializes in the design and manufacture of paragliders in the form of ready-to-fly aircraft. The company also builds powered paragliding wings and parafoil kites. [1]

Contents

The company is a společnost s ručením omezeným (SRO), a Czech limited company. [1]

History

The company was founded in 1989 and in 1990 started its own paraglider flight training school and also introduced its first elliptical planform glider, the Pegas Fazole. In 1994 the company developed its own paraglider design software, which allowed designing diagonal ribs and other features only possible with computer modelling. [2]

In 1993 the company started developing parafoil kites for kite surfing and kite snowboarding, establishing a school for kite boarding in 2002. [2]

In 1999 the company introduced the Pegas Pony, a glider that became a benchmark. [2]

By the mid 2000s the company was producing the beginner Pegas Arcus, intermediate Avis and Bain, the cross country Bellus and the competition Certus. A two-place glider, the Discus was also in the catalogue. [1]

A fixed-wing aircraft is a heavier-than-air flying machine, such as an airplane, which is capable of flight using wings that generate lift caused by the aircraft's forward airspeed and the shape of the wings. Fixed-wing aircraft are distinct from rotary-wing aircraft, and ornithopters. The wings of a fixed-wing aircraft are not necessarily rigid; kites, hang gliders, variable-sweep wing aircraft and airplanes that use wing morphing are all examples of fixed-wing aircraft.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Foil kite</span> Type of tethered wing

Foil kites are soft kites based on the design of the parafoil. They consist of a number of cells running fore to aft, some or all of which are open at the front to allow air to inflate the kite so it takes on an aerofoil section. Due to the amount of power that these kites can generate, they can be used for a variety of different activities including kitesurfing, kite landboarding, snowkiting, kite buggying, kite-energy systems or airborne wind energy, and recreational kiting.

A powered parachute, often abbreviated PPC, and also called a motorized parachute or paraplane, is a type of aircraft that consists of a parafoil with a motor and wheels.

A parafoil is a nonrigid (textile) airfoil with an aerodynamic cell structure which is inflated by the wind. Ram-air inflation forces the parafoil into a classic wing cross-section. Parafoils are most commonly constructed out of ripstop nylon.

A glider is a fixed-wing aircraft that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces, and whose free flight does not depend on an engine. Most gliders do not have an engine, although motor-gliders have small engines for extending their flight when necessary by sustaining the altitude with some being powerful enough to take off by self-launch.
