Pekka Toveri (born 6 April 1961) [1] is a Finnish politician and retired general.
Toveri served in the Finnish Army for over 35 years, [2] among other posts as the commander of the Armoured Brigade (2011–2013), the Western Finland military district (2014), and the Guard Jaeger Regiment (2015–2016); as military attaché at the Finnish Embassy in Washington, DC (2016–2019); and finally as the director of the Intelligence Division of the Defence Command (2019–2020), from which post he retired from active service at the rank of major general. Toveri was commissioned as sub-lieutenant in 1982. He reached the rank of captain in 1990, major in 1995, colonel in 2007, brigadier general in 2013, and finally major general in 2019. [1]
After leaving the military, he worked as a researcher affiliated to the Finnish Institute of International Affairs. [2] [4]
Toveri was elected to the Parliament in the 2023 election, representing the Uusimaa electoral district for the National Coalition Party. [3] [5]
In July 2024, Toveri was elected to the 10th European Parliament, representing Finland for the National Coalition Party, as part of the EPP group. [6]
Toveri is married to retired lieutenant colonel Siobhán Toveri of the US Air Force Reserve Command, who is attached to the US Embassy in Helsinki. [1] [7]
Commodore is a senior naval rank used in many navies which is equivalent to brigadier or brigadier general and air commodore. It is superior to a navy captain, but below a rear admiral. It is either regarded as the most junior of the flag officers rank or may not hold the jurisdiction of a flag officer at all depending on the officer's appointment. The military ranks of Finland are the military insignia used by the Finnish Defence Forces. The ranks incorporate features from the Swedish, German, and Russian armed forces. In addition, the system has some typically Finnish characteristics that are mostly due to the personnel structure of the Finnish Defence Forces. The ranks have official names in Finnish and Swedish languages and official English translations. The Swedish forms are used in all Swedish-language communications in Finland, e.g. in Swedish-speaking units of the Finnish Defence Force. The system of ranks in the Swedish Armed Forces is slightly different.
Uusimaa is one of the 13 electoral districts of the Parliament of Finland, the national legislature of Finland. The district was established as Uusimaa Province in 1907 when the Diet of Finland was replaced by the Parliament of Finland. It was renamed Uusimaa in 1997. It is conterminous with the region of Uusimaa but excludes the municipality of Helsinki which has its own electoral district. The district currently elects 37 of the 200 members of the Parliament of Finland using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2023 parliamentary election it had 801,205 registered electors.

Jarmo Ilmari Lindberg is a retired Finnish general and former Chief of Defence from 2014 to 2019. Lindberg began his career as a fighter pilot, and was eventually promoted to Commander of the Finnish Air Force and then Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics and Armaments in the Defence Command. He is also a member of the Parliament from the National Coalition Party since 2023.
Markus Kainulainen was a Finnish communist politician. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) and served as a Member of the Parliament of Finland from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1982 to 1983, representing the Finnish People's Democratic League (SKDL). After the SKP split in the 1980s, Kainulainen at first joined the Communist Party of Finland (Unity) (SKPy). The SKPy split in 1988 as well and Kainulainen was one of the leading organisers of a new party, Communist Workers' Party – For Peace and Socialism (KTP).

Timo Pekka Kivinen is a Finnish general who served as the Chief of Defence 2019–2024. Kivinen began his career as a dragoon, and was eventually promoted to Brigade Commander of the Karelia Brigade in 2011, Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategy in 2015 and Chief of Defence Command Finland in 2017.
