The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School (abbreviated as PAVCS) is a public virtual charter school, with its headquarters located at 630 Park Avenue, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

In 2015, enrollment was reported as 2,482 pupils in kindergarten through 12th grades. Cyber charter schools enroll many homeschooled students [3] and also children with special needs, [4] who are taught remotely via computer. [5] The school is one of the 14 public, cyber charter schools operating in Pennsylvania in 2015. PA Virtual Charter School is a federally designated Title I school.

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit IU23 provides the school with a wide variety of services like specialized education for disabled students and hearing, background checks for employees, state mandated recognizing and reporting child abuse training, speech and visual disability services and criminal background check processing for prospective employees and professional development for staff and faculty.

Background

PAVCS was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) in 2001 and then renewed in 2005 for an additional five years. [6] The Charter will be up for renewal by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in 2016. [7]

Initially serving kindergarten through 2nd grade, [4] as of 2015, it serves kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, known simply as PA Cyber, is a public cyber charter school founded in Midland, Pennsylvania in 2000. The school secured a five-year renewal of its charter, from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in July 2010. After a yearlong review, the school was accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 2011. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2012-2013 school year, the Title 1 school reported an enrollment of 10,434 pupils, 1,326 of whom had IEPs. It reported a 24.72 student/teacher ratio. In 2013, the school held three graduation ceremonies and, according to a report by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, it graduated 1500 students, 87.7 percent of whom were bound for a post-secondary education.
