Peoples Bus Service, formally known as the Sindh Intra-District Peoples Bus Service Project is a public bus service by the Government of Sindh operating in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Benazirabad. [1] [2] [3]

Contents

History

It was inaugurated on 27 June 2022. [4] The buses will operate from 8 A.M to 8 P.M. Fares for the transportation are between PKR 50-100, due to ongoing inflation a change to fares were proposed however were rejected. [5]

Development

240 buses ran on seven different routes in Karachi. In the first phase, the bus ran from the confluence of Model Colony and Tank Chowk at Malir Cantt to Shahrah-e-Faisal, Metropole and II Chundrigar Road Tower. [6]

In January 2023, the government of Sindh announced the Pink-bus, a modification of the bus service which was aimed to be women-only. [7] Electric-buses are also proposed for the Bus Service however as of now they will be operational in Karachi. [8]

Currently there is a expansion programme announced by the government to add additional [9] 60 buses. [10] and to improve availability a mobile application is planned. [11]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sindh Police</span> Police force in Sindh, Pakistan

The Sindh Police, is a law enforcement agency established in 1843 under a proclamation issued by Sir Charles James Napier, who became the conqueror of the State of Sindh by defeating the forces of the Talpur rulers at the Battle of Miani near Hyderabad on 20 March 1843. Ever since its inception, the organization was raised on the model of the Royal Irish Constabulary to maintain law and order and law enforcement in Sindh, Pakistan. The department serves an area of ~140,914km2 and has about 280,000 police officers and staff. As of 24 March 2024, Ghulam Nabi Memon is the Inspector-General of Police.

Rohri Junction Railway Station is located in Rohri, Sukkur district of Sindh province, Pakistan. It is a major railway station on the Pakistan Railways network, serving as the junction between the Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line (ML-1) and Rohri-Chaman Railway Line (ML-3). The station serves as a technical stop for all express and passenger trains. The station is staffed and has advance and current reservation offices. Food stalls are also located on all of its four active platforms. The land of the station is taken on lease for 100 years from Nawab Mir Yakoob Ali Shah.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Green Line - Karachi Metrobus</span> Pakistani bus route in Karachi, opened 2021

The Green Line is a bus rapid transit (BRTS) line of the Karachi Breeze metrobus system, operational since December 2021 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Its construction began in February 2016 on the orders of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Being stalled for years, it was then completed by the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The 18 km (11.2 mi) busway is the first phase of the Karachi Metrobus network and has 22 stations. The Green Line was expected to be functional by November 2021 and to have a fleet of 80 buses operated by Daewoo. So far, 80 buses for the project have reached from China at the Karachi Port. Speaking at the ceremony held to celebrate the arrival of buses in Karachi, Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said, "The proper commercial operation of the Green Line bus service would begin in Karachi by 25 December 2021 after completion of the trials". Buses were purchased from Foton Motor.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Orange Line - Karachi Metrobus</span> Pakistani bus route in Karachi, opened 2022

The Orange Line, also known as the Abdul Sattar Edhi Line, is a 3.88 km (2.4 mi) bus rapid transit line of the Karachi Metrobus in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is the smallest of the five Metrobus lines in the city. The current daily ridership is 3,000. The route goes from Board Office to Gulshan-e-Zia. It was inaugurated on 10 September 2022.

Squatting in Pakistan is the occupation of unused land or derelict buildings without the permission of the owner. Squatted informal settlements formed following the creation of Pakistan in 1947. They were known first as "bastis" then later "katchi abadis" and the inhabitants were forcibly resettled under military rule. By 2007, there were 7.5 million squatters in Karachi alone. The Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority (SKAA) announced in 2019 that a total of 1,414 katchi abadis had been located and 1,006 of those had been contacted with regards to beginning a regularization process.

The Huqooq-e-Sindh March was a 2022 protest march against the provincial Sindh Government of Sindh, Pakistan. Inaugurated by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the march started on February 26 at the Shaheed commune in Ghotki near the Sindh–Punjab border, and ended on March 6 in Karachi.
