Early life

Hynes White is the son of Joel Thomas Hynes, a writer, actor and director, and Sherry White, a writer, director and producer. Hynes White first began performing locally at the age of two, before making his first screen debut at the age of seven when he played a younger version of his father in the movie Down to the Dirt. [2] As a child, Hynes White studied for two years at the performing arts group in his hometown of St. John's. [3]

Career

Hynes White acted in 2013's The Grand Seduction alongside Brendan Gleeson, 2016's Edge of Winter with Joel Kinnaman and Tom Holland, as well as Milton's Secret with Donald Sutherland. He has also had roles in series Murdoch Mysteries , The Twilight Zone , Saving Hope , 11.22.63 , and Between . Hynes White performed in movies Crackie , I Like Movies and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb .

Hynes White's breakout role was starring as mutant Andy Strucker in The Gifted , an X-Men spin-off series that ran for two seasons on Fox before being cancelled in 2019. [2] He also has a leading role in the CBC comedy Pretty Hard Cases , [2] in which he appears as Elliot Wazowski opposite stars Meredith MacNeill and Adrienne C. Moore.

Hynes White won best actor at the Atlantic Film Festival for his performance in 2014's Cast No Shadow , which won multiple awards at the Atlantic Film Festival awards, such as best film, director, screenplay, along Hynes White's win for best actor. [3]

Hynes White's first role was Keith in the film Down to the Dirt . [2] In 2022 he played the role of Xavier Thorpe in the series Wednesday . The actor's option for second season of the teenage show wasn't picked up, as rumored due to anonymous allegations on Twitter, which Hynes White denied and cited the alleged victim Jane, [4] who made a statement in his defense. [5] Netflix has never publicly addressed the allegations. [6]

Hynes White is set to reunite with Wednesday costar Jenna Ortega in a romantic comedy called Winter Spring Summer or Fall . According to Deadline, the film follows two teenagers (Ortega and Hynes White) who meet and fall in love over four seasonal days of the year. [2]

Personal life

As part of his preparation for his role on Wednesday , Hynes White learned a variety of new skills, including archery, painting and fencing, as well as new dance moves. [2]

Hynes White had long been a fan of Wednesday’s executive producer, Tim Burton. The admiration started at an early age: His father Joel used to read Burton's poetry to him when he was a child. When Hynes White’s mother called to tell him he had landed the role of Xavier Thorpe on Wednesday , he thought it must be a joke, especially since the day was April 1. “I hung up and went back to sleep,” he recalled later. [2]

Hynes White was accused on Twitter of sexual assault in January 2023; a user with the Twitter handle @milkievich claimed in a since-deleted tweet that he got her, several other women, and one underage girl drunk and high at parties he threw and then assaulted them. The tweets further allege he sent sexually explicit photos to underaged girls. [7] He denied the allegations in an Instagram story in June 2023, saying the "rumors were false" and calling it a "campaign of misinformation". [8] [9] After the tweet went viral, multiple other women subsequently alleged Hynes White of sexual misconduct. [10]
