Peter Aderhold (born 1966) is a German composer and conductor.
Born in Berlin, Aderhold studied conducting (with Horst Förster, Olaf Koch, Heinz Rögner) and composition (Günter Kochan) at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin from 1982 to 1988. In 1988, he passed his Staatsexamen in composition with the ballet music Diana; this he premiered as conductor on the occasion of the GDR Music Days in Berlin in 1990 with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra; it was broadcast several times on radio and television. From 1988 to 1993, he was conductor at the Volkstheater Rostock, then in 1994/95, he moved to the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach as conductor. Since 1991, he has been chief conductor of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Youth Orchestra (among others first prize in the 1997 "Youth and Music in Vienna" competition). [1]
From 1995 to July 2000, he was first Kapellmeister and deputy general music director at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven. Since August 2000, he has been living in Berlin as a freelance composer and conductor. He has been responsible for the musical direction of several productions (among others In the Penal Colony by Philip Glass and Bremer Freiheit by Adriana Hölszky) at the Berliner Kammeroper. He has also worked as a guest conductor with the Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresden Philharmonic, Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle, Schwerin Philharmonic and the Hall Philharmonic. Since 2003 he has led the Akademisches Orchester Berlin . [2]
Aderhold wrote symphonic works as well as the chamber opera Odysseus and the Stranger for the Opernhaus Zürich (2001) and the opera Luther on the occasion of the reopening of the Theater Erfurt. He performed his composition Fanfare for Orchestra with the Akademisches Orchester Berlin in 2008 on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. In 2011, he wrote Meditation - Concerto for Alphorn and Orchestra for the same orchestra. His Concerto for one Player with two Saxophones and Orchestra, written for Branford Marsalis, was premiered on 12 February 2012 in Frankfurt by the latter and the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach conducted by Sebastian Weigle. Aderhold was a visiting professor at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg from 2011 to 2012. (compositional technique, instrumentation and conducting in the film music course) and is a lecturer at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin (instrumentation, composition, ear training). [4]
On 22 April 2016, his second opera Orlando based on the eponymous novel by Virginia Woolf was premiered at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and won the Opera Prize Braunschweig in 2014. [5]
For his ballet music Diana, he received the Prize of Criticism of the Music Criticism Commission of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR at the 1990 GDR Music Days. [6]
The Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin in Berlin, Germany, is one of the leading universities of music in Europe. It was established in East Berlin in 1950 as the Deutsche Hochschule für Musik because the older Hochschule für Musik Berlin was in West Berlin. After the death of one of its first professors, composer Hanns Eisler, the school was renamed in his honor in 1964. After a renovation in 2005, the university is located in both Berlin's famed Gendarmenmarkt and the Neuer Marstall.
Peter Ruzicka is a German composer and conductor of classical music. He was director of the Hamburg State Opera, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hamburg and the Salzburg Festival. Ruzicka was managing director and Intendant of the Salzburg Easter Festival and is professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. The list of his compositions includes numerous orchestral and chamber music works as well as the opera "Celan", about the poet Paul Celan, which was premiered in Dresden in 2001. His opera "Hölderlin" had its premiere at the Berlin State Opera in 2008. Ruzicka's third opera "Benjamin", about the philosopher Walter Benjamin, was written in 2015/16 for the Hamburg State Opera and premiered in 2018.
David Geringas is a Lithuanian cellist and conductor who studied under Mstislav Rostropovich. In 1970 he won the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. He also plays the baryton, a rare instrument associated with music of Joseph Haydn.
Siegfried Matthus was a German composer, conductor, and festival founder and manager. Some of his operas, such as Judith, were premiered at the Komische Oper Berlin in East Berlin. In 1991, he founded the chamber opera festival Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg and directed it until 2018. In 2005, he composed a Te Deum for the reopening of the Dresden Frauenkirche. Matthus is considered one of Germany's most often performed contemporary composers.
Günter Kochan was a German composer. He studied with Boris Blacher and was a master student for composition with Hanns Eisler. From 1967 until his retirement in 1991, he worked as professor for musical composition at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". He taught master classes in composition at the Academy of Music and the Academy of Arts, Berlin. He was also secretary of the Music Section of the Academy of Arts from 1972 to 1974 and vice-president of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR from 1977 to 1982. Kochan is one of eleven laureates to have been awarded the National Prize of the GDR four times. In addition, he received composition prizes in the US and Eastern Europe. He became internationally known in particular for his Symphonies as well as the cantata Die Asche von Birkenau (1965) and his Music for Orchestra No. 2 (1987). His versatile oeuvre included orchestral works, chamber music, choral works, mass songs and film music and is situated between socialist realism and avant-garde.

Horst Förster was a German conductor, choirmaster, violinist and university teacher. In 1952, he was appointed the youngest General Music Director of the GDR in the Landestheater Eisenach. Afterwards, he was chief conductor of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle and the Singakademie Halle (1956–1964) as well as the Dresden Philharmonic (1964–1966).
