Peter Anthony Freeman is a Welsh author, politician and storyteller. [1]

Career

Freeman was heavily involved with the Welsh community in Los Angeles where he was President of the Welsh League of Southern California, won the Los Angeles Eisteddfod Honorary Recognition for Bardic Achievements in 2013, and wrote several books on Welsh culture. Freeman also served as History and Mythology Editor of Celtic Family Magazine from 2013 to 2015. In 2017 he was elected a council member for Plaid Cymru in Pembrey, Wales. [2]

In April 2019, Freeman was elected and accepted the position of Mayor of Pembrey and Burry Port.

Personal life

Freeman was born in Llanelli, Wales and returned in retirement after living in Los Angeles, California. He currently is pursuing community engagement.

Eisteddfod Type of Welsh festival of literature, music and performance

In Welsh culture, an eisteddfod is a festival with several ranked competitions, including in poetry and music. The term eisteddfod, which is formed from the Welsh morphemes: eistedd, meaning 'sit', and fod, meaning 'be', means, according to Hywel Teifi Edwards, "sitting-together." Edwards further defines the earliest form of the eisteddfod as a competitive meeting between bards and minstrels, in which the winner was chosen by a noble or royal patron.

Llanelli is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. Matthew Rhys Welsh actor

Matthew Rhys Evans is a Welsh actor. He is known for playing Kevin Walker in Brothers & Sisters (2006–2011) and Philip Jennings in The Americans (2013–2018), for which he received two Golden Globe Award nominations and a Primetime Emmy Award. In film, he appeared as Dylan Thomas in the film The Edge of Love (2008) and as Daniel Ellsberg in the film The Post (2017) and starred in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019). In 2020, he starred in the lead role on the HBO period series Perry Mason, for which he received his third Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor – Television Series Drama.

National Eisteddfod of Wales Annual festival of Welsh-language culture

The National Eisteddfod of Wales is the largest of several eisteddfodau that are held annually, mostly in Wales. Its eight days of competitions and performances are considered the largest music and poetry festival in Europe. Competitors typically number 6,000 or more, and overall attendance generally exceeds 150,000 visitors. The 2018 Eisteddfod was held in Cardiff Bay with a fence-free 'Maes'. In 2020, the event was held virtually under the name AmGen; events were held over a one-week period.

Welsh Americans are an American ethnic group whose ancestry originates wholly or partly in Wales. In the 2008 U.S. Census community survey, an estimated 1.98 million Americans had Welsh ancestry, 0.6% of the total U.S. population. This compares with a population of 3 million in Wales. Côr Cymru is a Welsh TV competition searching for the best choir in Wales, which airs every 2 years on S4C. The first series was presented by Aled Jones and Heledd Cynwal in 2003, but subsequent series have been fronted by Nia Roberts and Gareth Owen.

Carwyn Ellis British musician

Carwyn Ellis is a Welsh musician, composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. He is known as the frontman of British alternative band Colorama, as a member of The Pretenders and as a long-time collaborator with Edwyn Collins. In 2014, they worked together on the soundtrack to the film The Possibilities Are Endless which won the Mojo 'Film of the Year' Award.

Siobhán Owen is a soprano and harpist from Adelaide, South Australia. Owen regularly performs at festivals, concerts and events around Australia and further abroad. She favours classical and Celtic/folk songs, but also sings pop and jazz on occasion.

Los Angeles St. Davids Day Festival

The Los Angeles St. David’s Day Festival was an annual arts and cultural festival held in Los Angeles, California. It typically took place during the first weekend of March, and attracted Welsh ex-pats and Welsh descendants from all over the United States. Activities included Welsh and other Celtic music, genealogy, food and drink, Welsh language classes, cultural exhibits, Welsh authors, crafts, and children's activities.

Lorin Morgan-Richards is an American author, illustrator, and songwriter, primarily known for his young adult fiction and Weird West series The Goodbye Family.

Jason Shepherd

Jason Shepherd is a Welsh podcast host, author, artist and audiobook narrator. Since 2008 he has produced and hosted the internationally recognized Learn Welsh Podcast, about Welsh language and culture, and has been involved in several book projects. Shepherd was an honorary guest of the Los Angeles St. David's Day Festival between 2011 and 2013, where he taught the Welsh language, and worked as Cultural Editor of Celtic Family Magazine from 2013 to 2015.

Roger Boore was a Welsh-language publisher and author who founded the Welsh publishing house Dref Wen.

Rhiannon Ifans is a Welsh academic specialising in English, Medieval and Welsh literature. She was an Anthony Dyson Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, in University of Wales Trinity St. David. She twice won a Tir na-n-Og prize for her work and won the literary medal competition at the Welsh Eisteddfod, for her 2019 debut novel, Ingrid, which was chosen for the Welsh Literature Exchange Bookshelf. In 2020, Ifans was elected as Fellow the Learned Society of Wales.
