The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is an independent agency of the United States government tasked with protecting public health and safety related to nuclear energy. Net metering in Nevada is a public policy and political issue surrounding the rates that Nevada public utilities are required to pay to purchase excess energy produced by electric customers who generate their own electricity,such as through rooftop solar panels. The issue centers around the question paying solar customers the retail or wholesale rate for the generated electricity.
In February 2021,the state of Texas suffered a major power crisis,which came about during three severe winter storms sweeping across the United States on February 10–11,13–17,and 15–20. The storms triggered the worst energy infrastructure failure in Texas state history,leading to shortages of water,food,and heat. More than 4.5 million homes and businesses were left without power,some for several days. At least 246 people were killed directly or indirectly,with some estimates as high as 702 killed as a result of the crisis.
DeAnn Thomason Walker was a chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas from 2017 to 2021,when she resigned following criticism of the commission's response to the 2021 Texas power crisis.
