Peter Gerald Stewart Murray OBE FRSA Hon. FRIBA (born 6 April 1944 [1] ) is a British writer and commentator on architecture and the built environment. [2] He co-founded New London Architecture and is Chairman of the London Society, in addition to being Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects. He is a keen cyclist and campaigner for cycling issues.
Murray studied at the RWA School of Architecture and the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, in the 1960s.
Murray was editor of Building Design and then the RIBA Journal. In 1983, he launched Blueprint magazine with Deyan Sudjic; this was followed by Eye, the international review of graphic design and Tate magazine for the Tate Gallery. He has worked on major projects around the world including Broadgate in the UK, Taipei 101, Taiwan, Union Square in Hong Kong, Avant Seine in Paris and Hudson Yards and One World Trade Center in New York City. In 2004, Murray launched the first London Architecture Biennale (now the London Festival of Architecture) in Clerkenwell.
He is chairman of New London Architecture: the centre for London's built environment and President of Wordsearch, a consultancy explaining and promoting architecture, planning and the built environment.
A prolific author, his works include The Saga of Sydney Opera House, "A passion to build" and "Architecture and Commerce."
Murray was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1989 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1999. He is a member of the Academy of Urbanism, a board member of the Center for Active Design and of the Association of Architectural Organisations.
Murray was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2021 Birthday Honours for services to leadership in the arts, architecture, city planning, design and publication and to charity. [3]
He is Chairman of the London Society, Deputy Chairman of the Bedford Park Society, a member of the Construction Industry Cycling Commission and of the Mayor's Design Advisory Group. He is on the board of developer Be First, an urban regeneration company wholly owned by Barking and Dagenham Council.
In 2005, Murray started the Cycle to Cannes charity bike ride. [4] In 2013, he took part in a 6000 km cycle ride for charity from Portland, Oregon to Portland Place, London researching the implementation of cycling strategies in US cities. [2]

Bicycle culture can refer to a mainstream culture that supports the use of bicycles or to a subculture. Although "bike culture" is often used to refer to various forms of associated fashion, it is erroneous to call fashion in and of itself a culture.
Cycling UK is a trading name of the Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC), which is a charitable membership organisation supporting cyclists and promoting bicycle use. Cycling UK is registered at Companies House as "Cyclists’ Touring Club", and is covered by company law. It works at a national and local level to lobby for cyclists' needs and wants, provides services to members, and organises local groups for local activism and those interested in recreational cycling. The original Cyclists' Touring Club began in the nineteenth century with a focus on amateur road cycling but these days has a much broader sphere of interest encompassing everyday transport, commuting and many forms of recreational cycling. Prior to April 2016, the organisation operated under the brand "CTC, the national cycling charity". As of February 2020, the organisation's president is the newsreader Jon Snow.
The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is an independent membership charity lobbying for better conditions for cycling in London. Its vision is to make London "a world-class cycling city". It is one of the largest urban cycling organisations in the world, with over 11,000 members.

The Design Council, formerly the Council of Industrial Design, is a United Kingdom charity incorporated by royal charter. Its stated mission is "to champion great design that improves lives and makes things better". It was instrumental in the promotion of the concept of inclusive design.

A bicycle boulevard, sometimes referred to as a neighborhood greenway, neighborway, neighborhood bikeway or neighborhood byway is a type of bikeway composed of a low-speed street which has been "optimized" for bicycle traffic. Bicycle boulevards discourage cut-through motor-vehicle traffic but may allow local motor-vehicle traffic at low speeds. They are designed to give priority to bicyclists as through-going traffic. They are intended as a low-cost, politically popular way to create a connected network of streets with good bicyclist comfort and/or safety.
Cycling is a popular mode of transport and leisure activity within London, the capital city of the United Kingdom. Following a national decline in the 1960s of levels of utility cycling, cycling as a mode of everyday transport within London began a slow regrowth in the 1970s. This continued until the beginning of the 21st century, when levels began to increase significantly—during the period from 2000 to 2012, the number of daily journeys made by bicycle in Greater London doubled to 580,000. The growth in cycling can partly be attributed to the launch in 2010 by Transport for London (TfL) of a cycle hire system throughout the city's centre. By 2013, the scheme was attracting a monthly ridership of approximately 500,000, peaking at a million rides in July of that year. Health impact analyses have shown that London would benefit more from increased cycling and cycling infrastructure than other European cities.
Sunand Prasad is a British architect and senior partner of architectural practice Penoyre & Prasad, a multi sectoral practice with an internationally recognised profile in health, education and civic buildings. He is a past President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Hanif Mohamed Kara is a structural engineer and is design director and co-founder of London-based structural engineering practice AKT II. He has taught design internationally, is a member of the board of trustees for the Architecture Foundation and was a commissioner for CABE from 2008 to 2011. He is currently Professor in Practice of Architectural Technology at Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also taught as professor of Architectural Technology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from 2009 until 2012. He lives in London with his wife and two daughters.

Victoria Thornton OBE HonFRIBA is the founder of the Open House architecture concept which has sought to improve public engagement in architecture and urban design. In 1992, she founded the architecture education charity Open-City and the initiatives Open House London and, later, Open House Worldwide. The Open House initiative highlights the value of design in creating liveable cities and the role everyone plays in them through dialogue with key stakeholders and the wider public. From 2018-22, she has been president of the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London; is the founder of Thornton Education Trust; trustee and chair, Architecture and Planning Committee Bath Preservation Trust; and director of Architecture for Kids.
Cycling in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, is a popular means of transportation, sporting and recreational pass time. Commuting in the city is supported by an extensive network of urban cycleways and on-street bicycle lanes. As a city established in the 20th century, Canberra's development was heavily influenced by the automobile for much of its history. The popularity of cycling in the city has increased dramatically in the 21st century with growing awareness of environmental issues, government policy supporting active transport and investment in cycling infrastructure. This has led to the development of a strong cycling culture.
Cycling in Turkey is held back by poor infrastructure. It is sometimes done for health reasons, and infrastructure is being improved. The World Health Organization has called for transport in Turkey to include more active transport such as cycling.
