The movie is a remake of the 1971 Tamil movie Neerum Neruppum, which was based on the 1844 French novella The Corsican Brothers, by Bollywood film and music expert Rajesh Subramanian states that the song Ek na ek din yeh kahani banegi was recorded in Kishore Kumar"s voice. During the shooting lesd actor Raiendra Kumar insisted that the song be re recorded by Mohammrd Rafi, who had predominantly sung for him. Rafi sahab spoke to Kishore Kumar on the behest of Rajendra Kumar and the song was re recorded.[Alexandre Dumas]].

The movie is based on Gulshan Nanda's novel Sisakate Saaz. Nanda has also written the screenplay. Upon its release, while the movie was a silver jubilee hit in many territories did not do so well in Mumbai. The film has gained a cult following over the years.
