Pharmaniaga Berhad (Pharmaniaga) is a Malaysian pharmaceutical company. It is a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings, an affiliate of the Malaysian military.

History

Pharmaniaga was established in 1994 as Remedi Pharmaceuticals. [1] The company was renamed as Pharmaniaga in August 1998 and is the first healthcare company in Malaysia to be listed in the Main Market of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now Bursa Malaysia). [2]

Ownership

Pharmaniaga is a public limited company. Its two major shareholders are Boustead Holdings and Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT). The major owner of Boustead Holdings is itself LTAT.

Pharmaniaga's Senior Management team includes Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope, Chief Executive Officer, Zulkifli Jafar as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Mohamed Iqbal Abdul Rahman as Chief Operating Officer. The Company's Board Members comprise Izaddeen Daud, Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman, Dr Abdul Razak Ahmad, Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, YB Senator Datuk Dr. Haji Azhar Ahmad, Sarah Azreen Abdul Samat, Datuk Lim Thean Shiang and Dr Mary Jane Cardosa as Independent Non-Executive Directors, while Ahmad Shahredzuan Mohd Shariff as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director.

Business Overview

Pharmaniaga is one of Malaysia’s largest integrated pharmaceutical groups with a firm focus on protecting the nation via providing accessible and affordable healthcare solutions, with operations in Malaysia and Indonesia. [3]

It is involved in various segments of the pharmaceutical value chain, including research and development, manufacturing of generic drugs and medical devices, logistics and distribution, sales and marketing, as well as community pharmacy.

Pharmaniaga has over 3,600 employees, and is home to more than 300 scientists, including researchers, chemists, pharmacologists, formulators, IT engineers, regulatory and clinical affairs specialists.

It has an extensive pharmaceutical logistics and distribution network in Malaysia with four warehouses equipped with pharma-grade cold rooms and delivers drugs as well as medical equipment to almost 10,000 health facilities nationwide.

With eight manufacturing plants, Pharmaniaga is capable of producing products in various forms; from oral solids, liquids and creams to small volume injectables.  Its product portfolio encompasses a diverse segment of therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular, anti-diabetic, antibiotics, antivirals, over the counter products and nutraceuticals, amongst others.  Its high tech European Union certified plant manufactures fill and finish Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.

Its Indonesia operations include two manufacturing plants and a public listed pharmaceutical logistics and distribution company with 33 branches throughout the republic.

He was also CEO and Executive Director of the CIMB Bank Berhad and President Commissioner of the PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He has also served as the State Treasurer of BN of Selangor since July 2022, this appointment also marks the start of his involvement in active politics.

Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria is a Malaysian chartered accountant and a fellow of CPA Australia. TSH Resources Berhad is a holding company from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It primarily engages in cultivating, processing, and refining oil palm. Other operations include segment manufactures and sale of downstream wood products. Furthermore, it operates a forest management unit, it manufactures, sells, and trades cocoa products and generates and supplies electricity from biomass plants. Its revenue is MYR 1.05bn, its net income MYR 70.57m and its number of employees 2.09k . It is active in Central Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and West Sumatra in Indonesia and Sabah in Malaysia. It claims to have received a sustainable forest management license from the state government of Sabah to manage 300,000 acres of forest for 100 years. It supplies crude palm oil and palm kernel to Musim Mas. “Sustainable Palm Oil Transparency Toolkit” (SPOTT) ranks TSH Resources 24th of 25 among of the world’s largest publicly listed palm oil companies.

The Armed Forces Fund Board is a statutory body which manages the pension fund for certain members of the Malaysian Armed Forces. LTAT was established in August 1972 by the Armed Forces Fund Act. The fund is considered the smallest among Malaysian government-linked investment companies, and owns controlling stakes in several public listed companies in Malaysia, including Boustead Holdings and Affin Holdings. It is overseen by the Ministry of Defence.

Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib also known as Hanifah Hajar Taib-Alsree is a Malaysian politician and businesswoman who has served as the Deputy Minister of Economy in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Rafizi Ramli since December 2022 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mukah since May 2018. He served as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Minister Maximus Ongkili from August 2021 to the collapse of the PN administration in November 2022 and the first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Minister Maximus Ongkili from March 2020 to August 2021.
