Philip Michael Roe (born 7 October 1991) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. Born in Chelmsford, Essex, he was a Sheffield United youth team player, having two spells on loan at Retford United while with the Blades, but failed to progress to the first-team and moved to Port Vale in summer 2011. He then joined Matlock Town in July 2012 before moving to Worksop Town in February 2013. He returned to Matlock Town in July 2014.
Roe graduated from the Sheffield United youth system to win two loan spells at Northern Premier League Premier Division club Retford United in 2009 and October 2010. However, United's manager Micky Adams did not offer him a contract in the summer of 2011, leaving Roe without a club. [3] Ironically, Adams was then sacked, only to sign Roe and his former youth team captain Kingsley James, after he was appointed manager at League Two side Port Vale in July 2011. [4] Adams handed Roe his senior début on 22 November 2011, in an FA Cup First Round 1–0 defeat to non-League Grimsby Town at Blundell Park; Roe was an 87th-minute substitute, replacing Adam Yates. [5] Roe signed a new contract with the club the following month, designed to keep him at Vale Park until the end of the 2011–12 season – meanwhile fellow left-back Rob Kozluk was released, leaving Yates and Roe as the only full-back specialists at the club. [6] Roe made his league début on 14 January, replacing Anthony Griffith 80 minutes into a 2–1 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon, [7] and was then given his first start against Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow on 27 March, but the match was abandoned after 64 minutes due to a fire caused by the failure of the floodlights; [8] he nevertheless gave "an encouraging performance". [9] Though his appearance did not count in official statistics, the yellow card he received for a lunge on Jermaine Grandison remained. [10] With just three appearances all season, Roe was not offered a new contract. [11]
Roe signed with Northern Premier League side Matlock Town in July 2012 as manager Mark Atkins looked to "add competition" to his squad. [12] Roe later left the Gladiators in February 2013 to sign with Worksop Town. [13] The "Tigers" ended the 2012–13 campaign in ninth place, eight places above Matlock. After "intense talks" with manager Mark Shaw, Roe agreed to stay on for the following season. [14] Worksop finished fourth in 2013–14, losing to AFC Fylde in the play-off semi-finals.
He re-signed with Matlock Town in July 2014. [15] Matlock finished 14th in the 2014–15 season.

The 2009–10 season was Port Vale's 98th season of football in the English Football League, and second-successive season in League Two. Micky Adams received plaudits for his first full season in charge. He took a squad of players that had previously been near the bottom of the division and made them difficult to beat, taking them to a tenth-place finish, just outside the play-offs. In the League Cup, Vale defeated two Championship sides to reach the Third Round stage. They also exited the Football League Trophy in the Third Round and the FA Cup in the Second Round, whilst the reserve team finished as Staffordshire Senior Cup runners-up. Marc Richards hit 23 goals, whilst Player of the Year Anthony Griffith was also an essential part of the first XI.
The 2010–11 season was Port Vale's 99th season of football in the English Football League, and third-successive season in League Two. Vale enjoyed a solid start to the campaign, looking like good prospects for promotion. However, Micky Adams left the club in December to take charge of Sheffield United, leaving the promotion push to be finished by a new man Jim Gannon. Gannon's traumatic reign ended after just two months; his exit was confirmed after players, staff, and fans turned against him. Vale exited the FA Cup in the Third Round and left both the League Cup and the Football League Trophy in the Second Round. In the background, numerous groups and individuals expressed their willingness to purchase the club. The board turned away these investors – to the anger of some fans, who formed a 'Black and Gold' campaign demanding that the club be sold.
The 2011–12 season was Port Vale's 100th season of football in the English Football League, and fourth-successive season in League Two. It marked the start of Micky Adams' second spell in charge of the club, and despite fan unrest with the board, Vale fans and players were hopeful of promotion come the end of the season. However, a ten-point deduction for entering administration doomed the club to a mid-table finish. They exited both the League Cup and Football League Trophy at the first round following defeats to League One clubs. They also crashed out of the FA Cup in the first round against non-League opposition.
