Philip Osaro Obele JP (born 1958) [1] is a Nigerian traditional ruler and eleventh Oneh Eh Eleme (King of Eleme) of Eleme Kingdom since 2019. [2]

Education

Obele holds a bachelor's degree in education and political science from Bayero University Kano and NCE (National Certificate in Education) from the Rivers State College of Education (now Ignatius Ajuru University of Education). [1]

Personal life

Before his leadership role, Philip Obele worked as a teacher and administrator.

In August 2000, Philip Obele was installed as the paramount ruler of Aleto clan. In 2008, he was elevated to Oneh Eh Nchia, a senior traditional position. [1]

In July 2019, [2] Philip Obele became the Oneh Eh Eleme following the death of Samuel Oluka Ejire [4]

He was chosen by the Eleme people [5] [6] and was recognized and given the staff of office by the then Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike [2]

During his reign, there have been developments [9] [10] and challenges. The people of Eleme have experienced environmental pollution and oil spillage. [11] [12] He has taken steps such as forming clean up committees, [13] [14] meeting with heads of environmental organisations [15] and fostering collaborations to address environmental pollution and oil spillage. The Eleme people are one of the various groups of indigenous peoples that inhabit the Niger Delta region of South-South Nigeria.

Bonny Island is situated at the southern edge of Rivers State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria near Port Harcourt. Ferries are the main form of transport, though recently an airstrip has been built and it’s fully functional - with flights from Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt respectively to and from the island. The local dialect spoken in Bonny Island are Igbo language and Ibani language.

Environmental issues in the Niger Delta are caused by its petroleum industry. The delta covers 20,000 km2 (7,700 sq mi) within wetlands of 70,000 km2 (27,000 sq mi) formed primarily by sediment deposition. Home to 20 million people and 40 different ethnic groups, this floodplain makes up 7.5% of Nigeria's total land mass. It is the largest wetland and maintains the third-largest drainage basin in Africa. The Delta's environment can be broken down into four ecological zones: coastal barrier islands, mangrove swamp forests, freshwater swamps, and lowland rainforests. Fishing and farming are the main sources of livelihoods for majority of her residents.

Tai is a Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State in Nigeria. It covers an area of 159 km2 and at the 2006 Census it had a population of 117,797. It is part of the Okrika/Oyigbo/Tai/Eleme constituency of the Nigerian Senate, represented since April 2007 by George Thompson Sekibo. Tai local government headquartersis situated at Sakpenwa Christianity and traditionalism are widely practiced in the area and little Islamic religion In the April 2007 elections the Tai LGA recorded an implausible 99.6% turnout for the Governorship election. Celestine Omehia of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party was at first declared winner, but his election was later annulled and Rotimi Amaechi, also of the PDP, was declared governor. Gokana kingdom is among the six kingdoms of the Ogoni people in Ogoni in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Gokana kingdom has geographic, historic and ethno-linguistic elements with some 130,000 Gokana language speakers located in the Gokana Local Government Area in Rivers State. Gokana contains a tremendous number of villages, including Lewe, B.Dere (Barayowa-Dere), K. Dere (Kegbara-Dere), Nwe-biara Kpor, Mogho, Bomu, Bodo, Gio-koo, Nwe-ol, Bera, Biara, Deeyor, Gbe, Goi, Barako, Deken, and Yeghe.

Eleme is a language spoken by Eleme people in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Eleme is a Niger-Congo language spoken by approximately 40-50,000 speakers in Rivers State in southeast Nigeria. It belongs to the Ogonoid language group, within the Cross River branch of Benue-Congo. Eleme language was originally divided into two mutual dialects of Nchia and Odido. Nchia spoken in six communities of Agbonchia, Akpajo, Alesa, Aleto, Alode and Ogale, while Odido dialect was spoken at Ebubu, Ekporo, Eteo and Onne, today, both dialects have submerged, with a few varying pronunciations.

Elelenwo is a town in the metropolitan area of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, a country in West Africa. It is home to several state-owned media establishments, including Rivers State Television (RSTV) and Radio Rivers.

Franklin Achinike Owhor is a Nigerian lawyer, politician and member of the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party. He is an autochthon of the Ikwerre tribe in Obio-Akpor local government area. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Port Harcourt in 1988 and was the 13th Attorney General of Rivers State and Commissioner for Justice from 1996 until 1999 and was reappointed for a second term shortly before the civilian fourth republic. Having served previously as The chairman of assess sharing rivers and Bayelsa, He also served two terms as a Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) from 2006 until 2016. He is the Secretary of Wike Transition Committee. Among others he is also a member of the board of directors of Oil and gas free zone authority (Ogfza).

The 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Rivers State, concurrent with elections to the Rivers State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

The Andoni River is one of the many rivers in Rivers State, Nigeria. Andoni River is located between the New Calabar River and Imo River. It is believed to have derived its name from St. Anthony, a European explorer who visited the area in 15th century. The mouth of the river gives way to large mangroves which are an important habitat for aquatic animals.
