Philippe Muyters (born 6 December 1961) is a Belgian politician from the Flemish Region and is a member of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA).
Muyters was born in Antwerp. He is of Spanish descent on his mother's side and Belgian descent on his father's. He is the brother of Serge Muyters who served as chief of police in Antwerp. Muyters studied at the Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Antwerp and obtained a master's degree in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp in 1984. From 2000 until 2009 he was the Managing Director of VOKA (Flemish Chamber of Commerce and Industry). In 2009 he joined the Flemish Government, where he is the Flemish Minister for Finance, Budget, Work, Town and Country Planning and Sports. After the general elections of 2010, he was elected as a Senator. Therefore, he resigned as Flemish Minister for one day, to take the oath as Senator and immediately be succeeded to take the oath again as Flemish Minister. [1]
The New Flemish Alliance is a Flemish nationalist, conservative and Eurosceptic political party in Belgium. The party was established in 2001 by the right-leaning faction of the centrist-nationalist People's Union (VU).

The Senate is one of the two chambers of the bicameral Federal Parliament of Belgium, the other being the Chamber of Representatives. It is considered to be the "upper house" of the Federal Parliament. Created in 1831 as a chamber fully equal to the Chamber of Representatives, it has undergone several reforms in the past, most notably in 1993 and 2014. The 2014 elections were the first without a direct election of senators. Instead, the new Senate is composed of members of community and regional parliaments and co-opted members. It is a chamber of the communities and regions and serves as a platform for discussion and reflection about matters between these federated entities. The Senate today plays a minor role in the federal legislative process. However, the Senate, together with the Chamber, has full competence for the Constitution and legislation on the organization and functioning of the Federal State and the federated entities. Since the reform of 2014, it holds about ten plenary sessions a year.

Since 2004, De Wever has been the leader of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), a political party advocating for the transformation of Belgium into a confederal state. He is also a member of the Chamber of Representatives. De Wever presided over his party's victory in the 2010 federal elections when N-VA became the largest party in both Flanders and in Belgium as a whole. He accomplished this again in the subsequent 3 elections, eventually being tasked with forming a new government by King Philippe following the 2024 elections.
