Philippe Sly (born 1988 or 1989 in Ottawa) [1] is a Canadian bass-baritone and opera, oratorio and recital singer.

Biography

Sly grew up in Ottawa, joined local boys and adult choirs and studied music at McGill University. [2] In 2011 he was one of the winners of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, during which time he was taught by Sanford Sylvan [3] and was a recipient of the Choquette-Symcox Award, conferred by JM Canada Foundation and Jeunesses Musicales Canada. [4] The following year, 2012, he won the Grand Prize of the Montreal International Musical Competition.

At San Francisco Opera, he joined the company's Merola training program in 2011 and won the SF Opera Adler Fellowship in 2013. Here in June 2013 he debuted as Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte [5] and in June 2015 as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro . [6] In June 2017 he debuted in the title role of Don Giovanni at Aix-en-Provence Festival. [7] He sang as Leporello in Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Paris in June 2019 in the new production of Ivo Van Hove.

Paulo Szot is a Brazilian operatic baritone singer and actor. He made his opera debut in 1997 and his international career has included performances with the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala di Milano, Opera de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera Australia, Liceo de Barcelona, among many others. In 2008, he made his Broadway debut as Emile De Becque in a revival of South Pacific, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award and the Theatre World Award. In 2012 he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for best actor in a musical, and in 2014 was nominated for the MAC Award for best Celebrity Artist becoming the first Brazilian to receive such honors. Susanne Mentzer is an American operatic mezzo-soprano. She is best known for singing trouser roles, such as Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Idamante in Mozart's Idomeneo, Octavian in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier and the composer in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as other music of Mozart, Strauss, Rossini, Berlioz and Mahler.

Richard Cowan was an American operatic bass-baritone. A national finalist in the 1985 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and winner of the Grand Prize in the 1987 Concours International de Chant de Paris, Cowan sang leading roles in the opera houses of Europe and North America and was the artistic director of the Lyrique en Mer opera festival in Belle Île, which he founded in 1998.
