The Philippines participated in the 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games held in Bangkok, Thailand from 1 to 9 August 2009. The said event was also the first and the last of its edition to be held before merging with the Asian Indoor Games and to be later called Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games starting 2013.

The Asian Indoor Games were a multi-sport event that was contested every two years among athletes representing countries from Asia. The games were regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. The first games were held in 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Futsal at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games is a futsal competition of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. It was first held in 2005.
The 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 4th Asian Indoor Games and designated as AIGs 4, was held in Incheon, South Korea, from 29 June to 6 July 2013, despite the ongoing 2013 Korean crisis. It was initially slated for Doha, Qatar, after the country cancelled the last edition of Asian Indoor Games in 2011. However, Incheon was chosen as a replacement instead by the OCA. This event also acted as a test event and a prelude to the 2014 Asian Games.

Bowling for the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held in the Anyang Hogye Gymnasium. It took place from 30 June to 6 July 2013. This was the third time that this sport is in these Games after Macau 2007 and Hanoi 2009.

Indoor Kabaddi for the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held at the Ansan Sangnoksu Gymnasium. It took place from 29 June to 3 July 2013. Women's indoor kabaddi teams made their debut in these Games, as only the men's teams were allowed to compete for medals at both Macau 2007 and Hanoi 2009 previously.
Kickboxing for the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held at the Dowon Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea. It took place from 3 to 6 July 2013. Previously, in 2009, this sport was contested at both Hanoi and Bangkok separately.
Kurash for the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held at the Ansan Sangnoksu Gymnasium. It took place from 4 to 6 July 2013. In the past, this sport was a demonstration one for Macau 2007. Like the sport of indoor kabaddi, Kurash was contested in both Hanoi and Bangkok separately in 2009 for medals.
Indoor athletics competition at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held from 18–20 September 2017, at the Indoor Athletics Arena. 25 medal events were contested over three days - 13 for men, 12 for women in the absence of a women's pole vault.
American Samoa competed at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from September 17 to 27. 7 athletes represented American Samoa in 2 different sports during the event.

The 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, officially known as the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and also known as Bangkok–Chonburi 2021, is scheduled to be a pan-Asian multi-sport event in indoor and martial arts sports held from 17 to 26 November 2023 in the Thai capital city, Bangkok and the province of Chonburi. Originally due to take place from 21 to 30 May 2021, the event was postponed in January 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) officially awarded the games to Bangkok and Chonburi Province and signed the hosting rights contract in April 2020.
