Phillip Ainsworth is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was an Australian national champion and won a bronze medal at the 1977 World Rowing Championships.
Ainsworth was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne where he took up rowing in 1966. He rowed in the Scotch second VIII in his final school year of 1969. He continued rowing at Monash University in 1970 and then joined Mercantile Rowing Club in Melbourne in 1972.
In 1977 Ainsworth rowed in the Mercantile lightweight eight which won the national championship title at the Australian Rowing Championships. [1]
Ainsworth made his Australian representative debut at the 1977 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam in the Australian men's lightweight eight. That eight won a bronze medal with Ainsworth in the three seat. [2]
Ainsworth was seriously injured in a car accident at the 1978 Australian Rowing Championships. He was secretary of Mercantile Rowing Club in 1978-9 and from 1982 to 1988.
He coached Australian junior coxed fours to the Junior World Rowing Championships - to bronze in 1984; to fifth place in 1985; to twelfth place in 1986 and to sixth place in 1987. He coached Australian U23 fours to the World Rowing U23 Championships - to fourth place in 1984 and sixth place in 1987. He coached Mercantile junior fours to victory at the Australian Rowing Championships in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. [3]
The Mercantile Rowing Club is based in Melbourne, Australia on the Yarra River. It was founded in 1880 and has occupied its current site since 1885. More than 40 Mercantillians have represented Australia at Olympic Games.
Peter Thomas AntonieOAM is an Australian former rower. He is an Olympic & Commonwealth games gold medallist and world champion. He is regarded as one of Australia's greatest ever rowers figuring in senior representative squads consistently from 1977 to 1996 and representing Australia on eighteen occasions at three Olympics and fifteen World Rowing Championships. He competed at the highest levels as both a sculler and a sweep oarsman, in both lightweight and open divisions, across all boat classes. He won twenty-nine Australian national championship titles in his career.
Matthew Ryan is a retired Australian rower, a dual Olympian and Olympic medal winner. Ryan competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where he won a silver medal in Coxless four. In London 2012 he rowed in the Australian men's eight which placed 6th.
The Australian Rowing Championships is an annual rowing event that determines Australia's national rowing champions and facilitates selection of Australian representative crews for World Championships and the Olympic Games. It is Australia's premier regatta, with states, clubs and schools sending their best crews. The Championships commence with the National Regatta - men's, women's and lightweight events in open, under 23, under 19, under 17 and school age events. Rowers at the National Regatta race in their local club colours with composite crews permitted. The Championships conclude with the Interstate Regatta - currently eight events competed by state representative crews or scullers selected by the state rowing associations. The states compete for an overall points tally which decides the Zurich Cup.
Leichhardt Rowing Club formed in 1886 is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Sydney, Australia. The clubhouse has occupied sites on Port Jackson's, Iron Cove at Leichhardt since 1886. Leichhardt is an all-level competitive and recreational rowing club, with a long history of supporting women's rowing. The club has enjoyed a rebirth in the new millennium partly due to the success of its Masters, Corporate Challenge and learn-to-row programs as well as a cherished partnership with Pymble Ladies College.

She was twice a medallist at underage world championships and has won gold, silver & bronze medals at World Rowing Cups between 2013 and 2019.
