Pino Massara

Pino Massara (24 April 1931 - 23 July 2013) was an Italian musician, composer, record producer and conductor.

Born in Vigevano as Giuseppe Previde Massara, graduated in chemistry, from the university years he devoted himself to jazz music. [1] Among his successful songs "Permette, signorina?", originally performed by Nicola Arigliano and later covered by Nat King Cole with the title "Cappuccina", [2] [3] "I Sing ammore" and "Grazie prego scusi", both recorded by several artists including Dean Martin, [4] "Nel Sole", which sold over one million copies and launched the career of Al Bano, [4] and "Siamo la coppia più bella del mondo", a duet between Adriano Celentano and Claudia Mori which was number one at the Italian hit parade for six weeks. [5] In the seventies Massara founded "Bla Bla Records", an alternative recording company that produced the first works of Franco Battiato, Juri Camisasca and the avant-garde rock band Capsicum Red. Clic is a 1974 album by Italian experimental musician Franco Battiato. The album, released on the Bla Bla label is a brooding and intense collection of instrumental/vocal arrangements. Dedicated to Karlheinz Stockhausen, the music has stylistic similarities with Philip Glass and Tangerine Dream, but is more lyrical and has elements of musique concrète. It was also released on 1974, on the Island label, in the UK with a different tracklist.

"Nel sole" is a song composed by Al Bano, Pino Massara and Vito Pallavicini, and performed by Al Bano. The song marked his first commercial success, and launched his career as a singer. The single peaked at first place four weeks on the Italian hit parade and sold about one million and half copies. The song named a film, Nel sole, directed by Aldo Grimaldi and starred by the same Al Bano and his then-wife Romina Power.
