Pippa Hale is a contemporary British artist, founder of the Northern Art Prize and co-founder of The Tetley Leeds. [1]

Early life

Pippa studied for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Warwickshire College of Further Education in Leamington Spa, graduating in 1991 and going on at Leeds University graduating with BA (Hons) Fine Art in 1996. [1]

Commissions

In 2019, as part of a joint project developed by Rachel Reeves in partnership with Leeds City Council and Leeds Art University, Hale's work "Ribbons" was commissioned from a shortlist of three other artists to redress the imbalance of women portrayed within the public sphere. [2]

Charitable work

From 2008 to 2012 Hale was a council member of the Leeds Civic Trust, in the same period she also served as Secretary to the Leeds Visual Arts Forum. [5] In 2015 she stepped down as co-Director of The Tetley and joined the board of trustees of its management company, Leeds Project Space where she served for a further three years, resigning from this role in 2018. [6] [7] She is currently a trustee of the education charity IVE. [8] [9]

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is a centre for contemporary art located on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England. It hosts a frequently changing programme of exhibitions, events, and educational programmes with no permanent exhibition. The idea to open a centre for contemporary arts in Gateshead came about in the 1990s, which was a time of regeneration for the local area, with the Sage and Gateshead Millennium Bridge also being conceived of in this period.

Henry Moore Foundation Charity in England

The Henry Moore Foundation is a registered charity in England, established for education and promotion of the fine arts — in particular, to advance understanding of the works of Henry Moore. The charity was set up with a gift from the artist in 1977. The Foundation supports a wide range of projects, including student bursaries, fellowships for artists and financial grants to various arts institutions. It operates from Perry Green in Hertfordshire and at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, England.

Christine Borland is a Scottish artist. Born in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland, Borland is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs) and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1997 for her work From Life at Tramway, Glasgow. Borland works and lives in Kilcreggan, Argyll, as a BALTIC Professor at the BxNU Institute of Contemporary Art.

Mariele Neudecker German artist

Mariele Neudecker is a German artist who lives and works in Bristol, UK. Neudecker uses a broad range of media including sculpture, installation, film and photography. Her practice investigates the formation and historical dissemination of cultural constructs around the natural world, focusing particularly on landscape representations within the Northern European Romantic tradition and today’s notions of the Sublime. Central to the work is the human interest and relationship to landscape and its images used metaphorically for human psychology.

Dan Holdsworth is a British photographer who creates large-scale photographs and digital art characterized by the use of traditional techniques and unusually long exposure times, and by radical abstractions of geography. He has exhibited internationally including solo shows at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, and Barbican Art Gallery, London; and group shows at Tate Britain, London, and Centre Pompidou, Paris. His work is held in collections including the Tate Collection, Saatchi Collection, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. He lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne and London.

Alison Wilding English artist

Sarah Cook is a Scotland-based Canadian scholar. She is well known as a historian and curator in the field of New Media art. She is a trustee of folly in Lancaster.

Lubaina Himid is a British artist and curator. She is a professor of contemporary art at the University of Central Lancashire. Her art focuses on themes of cultural history and reclaiming identities.

Leeds is known for its culture in the fields of art, architecture, music, sport, film and television. As the largest city in Yorkshire, Leeds is a centre of Yorkshire's contemporary culture and is the base for Yorkshire's television and regional newspapers.

Sacha Craddock

Sacha Craddock is an independent art critic, writer & curator based in London. Craddock is co-founder of Artschool Palestine, co-founder or the Contemporary Art Award and council member of the Abbey Awards in Painting at the British School at Rome, Trustee of the Shelagh Cluett Trust, and President of the International Association of Art Critics AICA UK. She was Chair of the Board of New Contemporaries and selection process from 1996 until December 2021.

Kim Lim (1936–1997) was a Singaporean-British sculptor and printmaker of Chinese descent. She is most recognized for her abstract wooden and stone-carved sculptures that explore the relationship between art and nature, and works on paper that developed alongside her sculptural practice. Lim's attention to the minute details of curve, line and surface made her an exponent of minimalism.

Katy Moran is an English contemporary artist whose work is in the collection of the Arts Council and the Government Art Collection. Moran is represented by Stuart Shave/Modern Art and the Andrea Rosen Gallery.

The Tetley, Leeds

The Tetley, is a contemporary art gallery based to the south of the centre of Leeds, England, on the site for the former Tetley's Brewery. The gallery was opened on Friday 28 November 2013.

Serena Korda

Serena Korda is a British visual artist. She has made work across a number of disciplines including performance, sculpture, ceramics and public art. Her work is interactive and encourages people to explore everyday rituals found from histories and conversations with one another.
