Pittsburgh Beadling is an amateur American soccer team founded in 1898 in the Pittsburgh suburb of Upper St. Clair Township, Pennsylvania. It won the 1954 National Amateur Cup. It claims to be the oldest continuously operating soccer club in the United States. [1]
Founded in 1898, Pittsburgh Beadling was formed by immigrant miners from Europe. In 1911, the team entered the Pittsburgh Press League, commonly known as the Miners League, after having spent its first thirteen years as an independent recreational team. In 1913, it won its first league title. [2] Three years later, it went to its first West Penn Cup where it finished runner up to Homestead Steel Works. [3] In 1919, it won its first West Penn Cup. [4] The team later entered the Keystone League. In 1973, the National Soccer Hall of Fame inducted Joseph Delach, coach of Beadling. [5] At some point, the club began fielding two teams, the RD and the Blues. In 1984, the club added youth teams. [6]

Bethlehem Steel Football Club (1907–1930) was one of the most successful early American soccer clubs. Known as the Bethlehem Football Club from 1907 until 1915 when it became the Bethlehem Steel Football Club, the team was sponsored by the Bethlehem Steel corporation. Bethlehem Steel FC played their home games first at East End Field in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley, then later on the grounds Bethlehem Steel built on Elizabeth Ave named Bethlehem Steel Athletic Field.
Bishop Auckland Football Club is a football club based in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England. Brooklyn Celtic was a name used by at least two U.S. soccer teams. The first was an early twentieth century amateur team which was formed in August 1910 and dominated the New York Amateur Association Football League from 1912 to 1917. The second was a member of the professional American Football League in the 1930s and early 1940s. A third Celtic club from Brooklyn, St. Mary's Celtic replaced the second club in the ASL before the 1935/36 season.
The Kearny Scots are an American football club based in Kearny, New Jersey. The club presently plays in the Eastern Premier Soccer League, which is a United States Adult Soccer Association-affiliated league and an amateur affiliate of the professional third tier National Independent Soccer Association. Local universities Duquesne and Robert Morris also field Division I teams in men's and women's basketball and Division I FCS teams in football. Robert Morris also fields Division I men's and women's ice hockey teams.
The National Association Football League (NAFBL) was a semi-professional U.S. soccer league which operated between 1895 and 1898. The league was reconstituted in 1906 and continued to operate until 1921.
Nicholas DiOrio was a member of the U.S. national team at the 1950 FIFA World Cup. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
HVV (Haagse Voetbal Vereniging: Dutch for is an amateur football club in The Hague, Netherlands. It was founded in 1883 as an extension of HCC, Hague Cricket Club. In 1978, on the occasion of the club's centenary, Queen Juliana granted the club royal patronage, with prefix Koninklijke, because of its pioneering role in sport, including in the formation of the Royal Dutch Football Association in 1889. Since then it has been called Koninklijke Haagse Cricket & Voetbal Vereniging, abbreviated KHC&VV. The club's grounds since 1898 have been at the 1,200-capacity "De Diepput", on the border between Benoordenhout and Wassenaar. It now also plays tennis, squash and judo and has around 1750 members.
Thomas "Tommy" or "Whitey" Fleming was a Scottish American soccer outside forward who began his career in Scotland and finished it in the United States. During his Hall of Fame career, Fleming won five American Cups, four National Challenge Cups and at least eight league titles.
The American Amateur Football Association Cup was an American soccer competition open to amateur teams affiliated with the American Amateur Football Association (AAFA). It played only two years, 1912 and 1913 before being superseded by the National Challenge Cup, now known as the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Philadelphia Tacony Disston Athletic Association Football Club, better known as Disston A.A. and nicknamed The Sawmakers was a U.S. soccer team sponsored by the Disston Saw Works company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team played for several years in local Philadelphia leagues before joining the National Association Football League. It was a perennial contender in both league and cup play until 1921. No records exist for the team after that year.
Homestead Steel Workers Football Club, better known as Homestead F.C. was the company soccer team for the Homestead Steel Works of Homestead, Pennsylvania. It played in a variety of local amateur and semi-professional soccer leagues in Western Pennsylvania. In 1915, Homestead won the Pittsburgh and District Association Football League (PDAFL) and in 1916 took the Western Pennsylvania State Cup. In 1915, 1917 and 1919, Homestead was knocked out of the National Challenge Cup by Bethlehem Steel.
Vestaburg S.C. was an amateur U.S. soccer team which existed during the early twentieth century. Based out of Vestaburg, Pennsylvania, they won the 1925 West Penn Challenge Cup, went to the quarterfinals of the 1925 National Challenge Cup and produced three members of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. One of those members, Ralph Caraffi began his career in 1915 with Vestaburg. The other two members were Johnny Jaap and Mike Bookie.
Paul “Doots” Danilo was born in South Fayette Township, Pennsylvania and was a U.S. soccer outside right who played most of his career with amateur teams in western Pennsylvania. He scored the winning goal in the 1940 National Amateur Cup and later served as a coach and administrator on both the local and national levels. Danilo is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Morgan F.C. was an early twentieth century U.S. soccer team from Morgan, Pennsylvania. Morgan is located in South Fayette Township, Pennsylvania. The team became known as Morgan Strasser after Peter Strasser purchased it.
Jimmy Mills was a Scottish-American soccer wing-half and coach. He gained his greatest fame as a coach, taking his teams to five league, three league cup titles and two McGuire Cup titles In 1956, he coached the US Olympic soccer team at the 1956 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Patrick Butler was an early twentieth-century Irish soccer player who appears to have spent his entire career in the U.S. leagues. He was a member of the Bethlehem Steel teams which won the 1916 National Challenge Cup and the 1917 and 1919 American Cup Butler began his career on the front line, playing both inside and outside forward on both sides of the field. He ended his career at the right half back position.
Joseph Delach was an American soccer right half, coach, team executive and league president who spent his entire professional career with Pittsburgh Beadling. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
