UPMC Events Center is an indoor arena located in the Pittsburgh suburb of Moon, Pennsylvania as a part of Robert Morris University, replacing the old Charles L. Sewall Center. [6] The UPMC Events Center is the new home of the Robert Morris Colonials men's and women's (NCAA) Division I basketball and women's volleyball teams. [7] The UPMC Events Center was originally scheduled to open in January 2019. [8] [1] However, it later opened in May 2019 after the men's basketball team announced all of their 2018–19 games would be played at the North Athletic Complex on campus.

In 2013, a survey was conducted to see if a new sporting and athletic center would be wanted for the university and in 2016, the survey results concluded in an overwhelming favor for the construction of a new sports center.

Bob Dylan and Pierce the Veil are the only acts that have performed at the arena more than once.

Facilities

The UPMC Events Center offers a state-of-the-art freeweight and aerobic exercising rooms used for weightlifting and fitness classes. There are also two more rooms that offer sports such as: yoga and wellness programs for students; as well as space for training recreational sports such as: basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. [9] [10] This facility is also fitted with locker rooms, private showering areas, office space and private lockers for the three (NCAA) Division I teams: men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball.

The facilities in this sports center are also used as a venue for conventions, public speakers, expos, concerts, and graduation ceremonies. [11]

On March 21, 2019, it was announced that the first basketball game to be held at the arena would be played between Robert Morris and the Pittsburgh Panthers on November 12. This was the 31st matchup between the two teams, with Pitt having won all 30 previous meetings, all of which have been held at the Petersen Events Center.

The Petersen Events Center is a 12,508-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in the Oakland neighborhood. The arena is named for philanthropists John Petersen and his wife Gertrude, who donated $10 million for its construction. John Petersen, a Pitt alumnus, is a native of nearby Erie and is the retired president and CEO of Erie Insurance Group. The Petersen Events Center was winner of the 2003 Innovative Architecture & Design Honor Award from Recreation Management magazine.

Palumbo Center, is a 3,500-seat multi-purpose arena in the Uptown area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania served by exits on both Interstate 376 and Interstate 579. The arena originally opened in 1988, and is part of Duquesne University. It is home to both the Duquesne Dukes basketball and volleyball programs.

Charles L. Sewall Center, commonly referred to as the Sewall Center, and nicknamed "The Chuck" was a 3,056-seat multi-purpose arena in the Pittsburgh suburb of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. It was home to the Robert Morris Colonials men's and women's basketball teams as well as the women's volleyball team from 1985 until 2017. The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was held there four times. The inaugural game was held on November 30, 1985, when Robert Morris lost to Duquesne 80-65. The building, named for the university's president from 1967 to 1989, replaced the John Jay Center in 1985.

The Robert Morris University Island Sports Center is a sports complex located in the Pittsburgh suburb of Neville Island in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The RMU Island Sports Center opened in 1998, and houses several ice and inline skating rinks, a golf range, a miniature golf course, athletic fields, a strength and fitness center, a bistro and a pro shop. In 2003, Robert Morris University bought a Superfund Site's land from Neville Land Company for 2.7 million. Ohio River Park is still being monitored by the EPA. A boathouse was added in October 2016. The complex is accessible via exit 65 of Interstate 79.

The John Jay Center is an athletic facility on the campus of Robert Morris University in the Pittsburgh suburb of Moon Township, PA. Built in 1968, it features a capacity of 1,000 spectators. It was the primary campus indoor athletic venue until the Charles L. Sewall Center opened for the 1985-1986 season. The Colonials men's basketball team played their first game as an NCAA Division I team at the center on November 30, 1976, a win over Delaware State. It was the home arena for the first two Robert Morris teams to play in the NCAA tournament. The Northeast Conference men's basketball championship tournament was held in the center in 1991. Today it is used for intramural sports but does maintain office space as well. By 2015 there were discussions about converting the building for academic use if and when RMU builds a new arena to replace the Sewall Center as the school's primary athletic facility.

Christopher B. Howard is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Arizona State University Public Enterprise in Tempe, Arizona, where he started on February 7, 2022. Previously, he served as the 8th president of Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. He is a former college football running back and former United States Air Force officer.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Robert Morris Colonials</span> College sports teams

The Robert Morris Colonials are the athletic teams for Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Colonials compete in NCAA Division I. In 2020, the school joined the Horizon League as a full member after leaving the Northeast Conference. Several RMU sports that are not sponsored by the Horizon League play in other conferences. Football plays in the Big South Conference, and men's and women's lacrosse respectively compete in the ASUN Conference and Mid-American Conference. The school colors are RMU Blue, RMU Red, and RMU Gray/Silver.

Toole was hired when, after three years in charge and 73 wins, head coach Mike Rice Jr. left the program in 2010 to take the head coaching job at Rutgers.

Andrew Toole is an American basketball head coach from Staten Island, New York. He has served as the head coach at Robert Morris University since May 11, 2010 and is currently the 6th youngest head coach in Division I basketball. Toole had served as an assistant coach at Lafayette College and Robert Morris prior to accepting his first head coaching position. As a player, Toole played at Elon University before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania.

The 2017–18 Robert Morris Colonials men's basketball team represented Robert Morris University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Colonials, led by eighth-year head coach Andrew Toole, played their home games at the PPG Paints Arena and four games at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 16–17, 9–9 in NEC play to finish in a tie for sixth place. As the No. 7 seed in the NEC tournament, they upset No. 2 seed Mount St. Mary's in the quarterfinals before losing in the semifinals to No. 1 seed Wagner.

The North Athletic Complex is a softball, soccer, anbd basketball venue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It is home to the Robert Morris Colonials softball and soccer teams of the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference. The venue has a capacity of 500. In 2018–19, Robert Morris's men's basketball team had to use this as their home arena while the UPMC Events Center was being constructed.

Chester E. "Chipper" Harris Jr. was an American basketball player, best known for his college career at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania, where he was the ECAC Metro Conference co-Player of the Year for the 1983–84 season.

The 2019–20 Duquesne Dukes men's basketball team represented Duquesne University during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Dukes, led by third-year head coach Keith Dambrot, were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Dukes finished the season 21–9, 11–7 in A-10 play to finish in a tie for fifth place. Their season ended when the A-10 tournament and all other postseason tournament were canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Jaycee Gebhard is a Canadian ice hockey centre, currently playing with Brynäs IF Dam of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). Selected in the first round, 6th overall in the 2020 NWHL Draft, she was the first ever draft pick of the Toronto Six of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).

The 2008–09 Robert Morris Colonials men's basketball team represented Robert Morris University in the 2008–09 NCAA Division I basketball season. Robert Morris was coached by Mike Rice Jr. and played their home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in Moon Township, PA. The Colonials were a members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 24–11, 15–3 in NEC play. They won the 2009 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament to earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. They received the No. 15 seed in the Midwest Region and played No. 2 seed Michigan State in the first round, losing by a score of 77–62.

The 2022–23 Robert Morris Colonials men's basketball team represented Robert Morris University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Colonials, led by 13th-year head coach Andrew Toole, played their home games at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, Pennsylvania as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 15–16, 10–10 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for sixth place. As the No. 6 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they defeated IUPUI in the first round to advance to the quarterfinal round, where they fell to Cleveland State in overtime.
