Place of Skulls is an American doom metal band from Knoxville, Tennessee.
Place of Skulls was formed in 2000 by ex-Pentagram guitarist Victor Griffin. Griffin left Pentagram in 1996 and during this time before starting the band, became a Christian. [2] The name is a biblical reference to Golgotha. The band put out their debut album, Nailed , via Southern Lord Records in 2002. Many of these songs deal with Griffin's new found faith in Christianity. Four songs from the Nailed session were explicitly Christian and for this reason did not appear on the album. These were released as the Love Through Blood EP in 2005.
Scott "Wino" Weinrich joined the band for their second album, With Vision . The album was released by Southern Lord Records in 2003. Shortly after, Wino left the band to concentrate on The Hidden Hand.
In 2006 the band signed to Germany's Exile on Mainstream Records and released the album The Black Is Never Far . In 2010, the band released their fourth album, As a Dog Returns. [3]
On June 17, 2016, Place of Skulls re-released their whole discography digitally through Stone Groove Records [4] [5] They are also frequently featured on the label's weekly radio show Stone Grooves & Deep Cuts. [6]

The Obsessed is an American doom metal band from Potomac, Maryland, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich. Formed in 1979, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus. About two years before his departure from Saint Vitus, Weinrich reformed The Obsessed in 1989, and three studio albums − The Obsessed (1990), Lunar Womb (1991) and The Church Within (1994) − were released before disbanding for the second time in 1995. After reuniting for occasional live shows between 2011 and 2013, the band announced a permanent reunion in March 2016, and has since released two more studio albums: Sacred (2017) and Gilded Sorrow (2024).

Pentagram is an American heavy metal band from Alexandria, Virginia, most famous as one of the pioneers of heavy metal, and the sub-genre of doom metal in particular. As such, they are considered one of the "big four of doom metal," alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble. The band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release a full-length album until re-forming in the early 1980s with an almost completely new line-up. Throughout the band's history, the only constant member has been vocalist Bobby Liebling. With Vision is the second studio album release by Place of Skulls. It was released in 2003 on the Southern Lord Records label. The recording of this album was marked by numerous personnel changes before the final staff was assembled. This is the only Place of Skulls album to feature Scott Weinrich on vocals and second guitar. He left to concentrate on The Hidden Hand. Writing credits are far more widely distributed among the band members than on their previous album.
The Black is Never Far is the third studio album by American doom metal band Place of Skulls. It was released in 2006 on the Exile on Mainstream label. Scott Weinrich left the band prior to the recording in order to focus on The Hidden Hand.
