Spirit Caravan was [1] an American doom metal / stoner rock band featuring guitarist and vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich.
Scott "Wino" Weinrich formed Spirit Caravan after the breakup of The Obsessed. The remainder of the band consisted of Dave Sherman (formerly of Wretched) on bass and vocals; and Gary Isom (formerly of Unorthodox) on drums. Weinrich credits them for encouraging him to join the band and become active musically again, after he had abandoned his music career. [2] The band was originally entitled Shine, and they released a demo and 7" under this name. They were forced to change to the band's name when another band of the same name threatened legal action. [3] They changed their name to Spirit Caravan, after an Obsessed song. The band had a lyrical emphasis on spirituality (though not necessarily religion) and global politics. The band split up in 2002 but have reunited for US tour dates and European festival appearances in 2014.
After the band's demise, Weinrich joined Place of Skulls and founded The Hidden Hand. After The Hidden Hand's demise in 2007, Weinrich rejoined the reactivated Saint Vitus. Sherman went on to found the band Earthride. Isom joined Internal Void, Pentagram, Valkyrie and Nitroseed.
Their song "Dove-Tongued Aggressor" was featured on the soundtrack for the 2005 video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland .
Numerous songs by Spirit Caravan were also recorded as songs for The Obsessed. "Kill Ugly Naked" from Jug Fulla Sun appears on various demos and live recordings along with the "Incarnate" compilation. "Fear's Machine" from Jug Fulla Sun was originally written for the Obsessed and appears on the "Incarnate" compilation. "Melancholy Grey" from Jug Fulla Sun was written in the same sessions as 1994's "The Church Within" and appears on the 2013 reissue of that album. "Higher Power" from Dreamwheel appears on the Obsessed's 1982 demo. "Spirit Caravan" from Elusive Truth appears on "Incarnate". "Lifer City" from Elusive Truth appears on various demos and the unreleased Obsessed LP sent to Metal Blade.
Former Obsessed drummer Ed Gulli joined Spirit Caravan on drums for the Maryland Doom Fest in June 2015. He was replaced in 2016 by drummer Brian Costantino.
Wino announced in 2016 that Spirit Caravan would become the new lineup of The Obsessed.
The Obsessed is an American heavy metal band from Potomac, Maryland, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich. The band combines elements of doom metal, stoner rock, and punk rock. Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums, the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995. After briefly reuniting for some shows in 2012 and 2013, the Obsessed announced their third reunion in March 2016.

Saint Vitus is an American doom metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1979. They are considered to be one of the first doom metal bands, and have been labeled as one of the "big four" of that genre, along with Candlemass, Pentagram and Trouble. Having released nine studio albums to date, Saint Vitus never achieved a popular breakthrough, but have exerted great influence on the development of doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock.

Pentagram is an American heavy metal band from Alexandria, Virginia, most famous as one of the pioneers of heavy metal, and the subgenre of doom metal in particular. As such, they are considered one of the "big four of doom metal", alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble. The band was prolific in the underground scene of the 1970s, producing many demos and rehearsal tapes, but did not release a full-length album until reforming in the early 1980s with an almost completely new line-up. Throughout the band's history the only constant member has been vocalist Bobby Liebling. The revolving line-up of Pentagram has featured many well-respected musicians in the local doom metal scene, with members spending time in other acts such as the Obsessed, Place of Skulls, Internal Void, Spirit Caravan, among many others. The band's current line-up consists of Liebling (vocals), Matt Goldsborough (guitar), Greg Turley (bass) and "Minnesota" Pete Campbell (drums).

Incarnate is a compilation album by American doom metal band The Obsessed. It consists of tracks taken from a number of rare and unreleased sources, namely their Sodden Jackal and Altamont Nation 7"s, the Hellhound Records What the Hell! compilation, and some unreleased demos. There are also two cover songs -- "On the Hunt" and "Inside-Looking Out". The track "Streetside" is a video clip.
13 is the second album by American heavy metal band Solace. Considered heavier, angrier and musically more aggressive than its predecessor Further, 13 continued to raise Solace above their stoner rock stereotype with its heavy metal and doom metal influences, this time with help from Scott "Wino" Weinrich. With comparisons made between 13 and albums from heavy bands Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, Solace was dubbed "one of the freshest sounds the metal scene has ever cultivated".
MeteorCity Records is an American record label founded in 1997 by Jadd Shickler and Aaron Emmel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With the release of its compilation album Welcome to MeteorCity showcasing young unsigned Kyuss-like bands, MeteorCity helped launch the stoner rock genre and many of the genre's first bands, plus side projects from members of well-known bands including The Atomic Bitchwax and Hermano. MeteorCity Records was one of the first record labels dedicated exclusively to Stoner rock, doom metal, sludge metal, drone metal and psychedelic rock.

The Obsessed is the debut album by American metal band the Obsessed, released in 1990 by Hellhound Records. All songs were recorded in 1985 for an intended album for Metal Blade Records, which had never been released. The release of this album prompted singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich to leave Saint Vitus and reform the Obsessed with a new rhythm section.

Dreamwheel is an EP by Spirit Caravan. It was released in 1999 on CD by MeteorCity Records and on 10" vinyl by People Like You Records. This was released shortly after their debut album, Jug Fulla Sun.
The Last Embrace is the final release by American band Spirit Caravan. It was released on 2×CD and 2×LP in 2003 by Meteor City Records. It contains 19 songs from their two albums, Jug Fulla Sun and Elusive Truth, the three songs that appeared on their debut 7-inch, the two songs from their final 7-inch, Spirit Caravan, the song from their split 7-inch with Sixty Watt Shaman, and their song from the Rise 13 compilation on Rise Above Records. It also features the last three songs Spirit Caravan recorded, "The Last Embrace", "Brainwashed" and "Dove-Tongued Aggressor".
Tolotta Records was a record label run by Joe Lally of Fugazi. It was based in Arlington, Virginia and distributed through Dischord Records. The label has released bands from Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area, such as Dead Meadow and Spirit Caravan. The label was founded in 1994 and came to an end in 2002 when Spirit Caravan broke up and Dead Meadow moved to Matador Records. Shortly after Lally set-up the label, the German label Hellhound Records disbanded, leaving Tolotta to pick up some of the slack. Tolotta re-released The Obsessed's first album and picked up Scott Weinrich's new band, Shine, who later changed their name to Spirit Caravan.
Sodden Jackal is the title of the debut EP/single released by doom metal band The Obsessed on 7" vinyl. All three songs from the EP were eventually included on The Obsessed's Incarnate compilation.
Shrinebuilder was an American stoner/doom metal supergroup consisting of various established musicians, particularly of the doom metal subgenre. Their first and only album, Shrinebuilder, was released in October 2009.
