Plad, Missouri

Plad is an unincorporated community in northeast Dallas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] The community is on Missouri Route 64 five miles east of Pumpkin Center and nine miles northeast of Buffalo. The headwaters of Jakes Creek arise just to the northwest of the community. [2]

History

A post office called Glad was established in 1891, and remained in operation until 1960. [3] The community's name was supposed to signify that the townspeople were "Glad" they had finally secured a post office (a postal error accounts for the error in spelling, which was never corrected). [4]

The community is on the northeast bank of the Missouri River across from the Marion Bottoms Conservation Area. Ashland lies approximately six miles to the northeast on Missouri Route M and Sandy Hook lies across the Missouri three miles to the west in Moniteau County. The lone business in Wilton is the Riverview Store, which serves the local community and users on the Katy Trail.

The Hico Bridge over the Niangua on County Road JJ-203 is approximately 1000 feet west of the Hico location.

Jakes Creek is a stream in northeastern Dallas County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Niangua River.

Leadmine is an unincorporated community in northern Dallas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is located about 3.5 miles east of Tunas on Missouri Route E. The Lead Mines Conservation Area lies one-half mile to the east. It is approximately 50 miles north-northeast of Springfield.

The community is near the headwaters of the James River, which is about two miles to the north-northeast. A small airstrip, Owens Field, is located just south of Waldo.
