"Planica, Planica" is a 1979 Slovenian polka song performed by Ansambel bratov Avsenik (Slavko Avsenik Und Seine Original Oberkrainer). This song was Slavko Avsenik's tribute to Planica. [1]
Music was written by Slavko Avsenik, lyrics written by Marjan Stare and arranged by Slavko's brother Vilko Ovsenik. Original voice was contributed by three vocals in the band at that time: Ema Prodnik, Jožica Svete and Alfi Nipič. Song world premiered at opening of 5th FIS Ski Flying World Championships on 15 March 1979 when band performed in the rain on the stage under RTV dom next to famous flying hill Letalnica bratov Gorišek. [2] The main chorus »Planica, Planica, snežena kraljica« (Planica, Planica, snow queen) is played every time someone jumps further than 240 meters. In 1979 it was first time released on »Frochloche stunden mit music« in Germany. A year later song was first released in Slovenia on »Vesele urice«.
From 1946-1952 Slavko Avsenik was a national team ski jumper. But then he injured and became a musician. In 1948 he set his personal record of 74 m (243 ft) in Planica at Srednja Bloudkova (K80). Slavko was always big fan of ski jumping and especially of Planica to whom he was very emotionally attached. That's why he decided to write this song as a tribute to Planica. He was even funding renovations of Planica in the past.

Slavko Avsenik was a Slovene composer and musician. Beginning in 1953 with the formation of the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble, Avsenik produced more than 1,000 songs and garnered success both in Slovenia and in other parts of Europe and America, and is viewed as a Slovenian cultural icon.

Bloudkova velikanka, also Bloudek-Rožmanova velikanka, is a large ski jumping hill in Planica, Slovenia, originally opened in 1934. In 2001, the hill collapsed and was completely rebuilt in 2012. A new normal hill (HS102) was also built next to Bloudkova velikanka in 2012, replacing the old K90 hill. A total of ten world records were set at the venue in the 1930s and 1940s.

Janez Gorišek was a Slovenian civil engineer, constructor, and architect. He held a degree from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy at the University of Ljubljana. His works were mainly constructions of ski jumping and ski flying hills worldwide; his best-known work being the Gorišek Brothers Ski Flying Hill in Planica, Slovenia, which he developed with his brother Lado (1925–1997) and which was the world's second-largest ski flying hill. He drew the profile for the renovated Planica flying hill with the help of his son. Since 2015, the hill is again largest in the world. He also participated in the ski jumping event at the 1956 Winter Olympics.
Na Golici is a Slovenian polka instrumental composed by Slavko Avsenik and arranged by his brother Vilko Avsenik. The song was written in 1954 and first recorded in January 1955 in the studio of Radio Kärnten. It is considered the most played instrumental tune in the world. At this time, the band was renamed to Gorenjski kvintet. This song has been covered more than 600 times all over the world.
The Planica Nordic Centre is a nordic skiing complex located in Planica, Slovenia. It consists of one ski flying hill, seven ski jumping hills, and a cross-country skiing track. It is the only nordic centre in the world with eight ski jumping hills. The complex was officially opened in December 2015.
The 2015–16 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup was the 37th World Cup season in ski jumping for men, the 19th official World Cup season in ski flying and the 5th World Cup season for ladies. It began on 21 November 2015 in Klingenthal, Germany and concluded on 20 March 2016 in Planica, Slovenia.
Avsenik Brothers Ensemble were a Slovene Oberkrainer music band formed by the brothers Slavko Avsenik and Vilko Avsenik in 1953 in Begunje na Gorenjskem. The music for their repertoire of about 1000 songs was all written by Slavko and arranged by Vilko, an academic composer. Lyrics for their songs were written by Marjan Stare, Ferry Souvan, Ivan Sivec, Franc Košir, Tone Fornezzi, Vinko Šimek and others.
