Playahead was a large Internet community mainly aimed at Swedish teenagers. The site was founded 1998 and became one of the largest Internet communities in Sweden. At its height of popularity, Playahead was, together with LunarStorm and Hamsterpaj, the most popular social networks amongst Swedish teenagers. [1]
Playahead was a site much alike LunarStorm. It was a place for teenagers to meet, talk, write to each other, look at each other's pictures and debate in forums. Members could also pay a small fee of "Playahead-Dollars" to create a team, based on their interest, and then other members could join the team. Most of the members were between 13 and 24 years old.
The site was founded by Jonas Frost, Magnus Hansson and Henrik Weimenhög, and was from the beginning named "Hångelguiden" (translates to The Make Out Guide). [2] In 2000, the site was sold to a company based in Helsingborg, named Playahead. It claimed to have 2.9 million members, making an average of around 5,9 million logins per month. After 2007 the site had not done so well and had only 600,000 visitors a week. It was sold once again to the company Modern Times Group. [3] As of May 2009 the site had an Alexa rank of around 29,000. The Site closed March 1, 2010.

WeWork sold it to AlleyCorp, an early stage NY-focused venture fund and incubator, in March 2020.
LunarStorm, in Swedish often shortened to Lunar, was a Swedish commercial advertisement-financed social networking website for teenagers, which was also available in the United Kingdom before 2007. "LunarStorm" was operated by a company called LunarWorks. According to the company's official statistics, the website had 1.2 million members in 2007, of whom some 70% were 12–17 years old. The website drastically dropped in popularity since then and in June 2010, Wyatt Media Groups announced that LunarStorm would be shut down on 18 August 2010 due to lack of activity.

Servers and matchmaking was provided through a proprietary client. Supported by online advertising, it was one of few services at the time to offer free integrated community services including chat rooms, message boards, and free personal web pages. Extremely popular during the mid to late 1990s in the era prior to the Dot-com bust, WBS was the largest and best-known social media website of its time. In 1998, WBS was acquired by the search engine Infoseek, which was in turn acquired by Disney/ABC. The original WebChat Broadcasting System closed on 15 September 1999 after its chat rooms were integrated into Disney's existing Go Network chat rooms. A revival of WBS was launched in 2009 and is virtually identical to the original community.
