Pluit is an administrative village (kelurahan) located in Penjaringan, Jakarta. In majority, its residents are mainly inhabited by ethnic Chinese Indonesians. Pluit is a bustling area with residential and commercial establishments supported by modern amenities.
Contrary to popular belief, the name Pluit has no etymological connection with fluit (whistle in Dutch). The name was derived from a Dutch type of ship, the fluyt . In the 17th century, a fluyt called het Witte Paard was shipwrecked on the eastern coast of the Angke river estuary.[ citation needed ] [1] This ship was subsequently used as a stronghold in addition to the already existing Castle Vijfhoek to ward off sporadic attacks of Bantenese forces. This ship was then known as De Fluit, which later became Pluit. [2]
The conversion of the swampy ground in the area of Pluit housing started in the 1970s. By 1979, the area had become well-established residential area with Jembatan Tiga Road providing the main connection to the area. [3]
In the 1990s, an elevated harbor toll road was completed, replacing Jembatan Tiga Road as the main connection to the area. [3]
Taman Kota Waduk Pluit (in English, Pluit Reservoir City Park) is a park adjacent to a water reservoir known as Waduk Pluit. The park provides fitness equipment, [4] jogging tracks, [5] and more.
Pluit pumps are in use continuously during the rainy season, especially since Pluit is located below sea level. [6]
Since its installation in 2002, the pumps have been useful in avoiding the seasonal flooding in the region that befalls Jakarta every four years. The Jakarta administration plans to build a new reservoir additional to the current reservoir with a value of Rp280 billion ($30.8 million), starting in 2012. [7]

Tegal is a city in the northwest part of Central Java of Indonesia. It is situated on the north coast of the province of Central Java, about 175 kilometres (109 mi) from Semarang, the capital of the province. It had a population of 239,599 at the 2010 Census and 273,825 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 290,988. Mal Taman Anggrek, translated to "Orchid Garden Mall" in English, is a shopping mall in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, Indonesia. The mall is named after a real orchid garden within the now-demolished Orchid Hotel site, which occupied the building site prior to construction; that orchid garden has since been relocated near Taman Mini Indonesia Indah.
Sentul City is a modern housing area situated at Sentul, Babakan Madang, Bogor Regency, in West Java, Indonesia. Its geographical coordinates are 6 52' 0" South, 112 26' 0" East and its original name is Sentul. Located near Bogor, it is about 48 km south of Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta. Penjaringan is a subdistrict of North Jakarta, Indonesia. It is the westernmost subdistrict of North Jakarta. Muara Angke port and the mouth of Sunda Kelapa Port are located within Penjaringan. Indonesian National Route 1 is a major road in Java, Indonesia. It passes through 5 provinces along the north coast, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java. It connects Merak and Ketapang. Merak is a ferry terminal to Sumatra and Ketapang is ferry terminal to Bali. This national route is also called "Pantura" or "Trans-Java". Besides the arterial roads, the route also includes the entirety of the Trans-Java Toll Road.
BSD City, formerly referred to Bumi Serpong Damai is a planned community located within Greater Jakarta in Indonesia. The project was initiated in 1984 by a group of private developers and started in 1989. The town is currently managed by the holding company PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk, which is owned by Sinar Mas Land, a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, a large industrial conglomerate in Indonesia. BSD City encompasses a total area of approximately 6,000 hectares, hosting a range of residential houses, apartments, malls, offices, and more. Most of the residential areas are designed to be suitable for Indonesia's upper-middle class, in gated neighbourhoods, each with different themes. The city is now a self-sustaining community, with businesses, schools, shopping malls, hospitals and hotels.
Semanggi Interchange or commonly known as Semanggi Bridge is a major road interchange in Jakarta, Indonesia which consists of a cloverleaf interchange —the first, and until the 1990s the only, of its kind in Indonesia—and a partial turbine interchange. Two main roads of the city Gatot Subroto Road and Sudirman Road intersect at this interchange. Initially completed in 1962 as part of several projects intended to be completed before the 1962 Asian Games, the interchange is a landmark and an important part of the Golden Triangle of Jakarta.
