Pokhara International Mountain Film Festival is a three-day-plus film festival held in the city of Pokhara in Nepal. [1] This non-competitive film festival showcases documentaries, and feature films that deals with environment and culture of the Himalayas. [2]

Contents

The festival, organized by Pokhara Film Society, happens usually towards the end of December every year. [3] Besides Pokhara, the films are also shown in other cities of Nepal like Manang, Mustang, Ghale Gaun and Ghandruk. [4]

2014

The festival was held on December 10 to 12, at The Mountain Museum, Gharipatan, Pokhara, and was jointly organized by The Pokhara Film Society and The Federation of Film Societies of Nepal. 25 and documentaries from 11 different countries were screened during the three-day event.

2015

The festival was not conducted in 2015 due to the April 2015 Nepal earthquake and the six-month-long inhumane blockade.

2016

The 2016 IMFF was organized from 21 to 23 December, and a total of 52 films and documentaries from 22 countries were screened. [5]

Sunakali is a 2015 documentary film directed by Bhojraj Bhat and produced by Good Neighbours Nepal. Sunakali is about a girls' football team that overcomes all obstacles to play football, finally attaining glory. It stars local girls from the Mugu district of remote Nepal which also lies in a mountainous region. Bhat's interest in the subject matter rose from this journalistic experience and an opportunity to highlight the aspects of the majority of Nepalese society that thwart their progress. Production began in early 2000 with Bhat covering the Maoist insurgency in remote areas of Nepal. Upon its release, Sunakali received tremendous acclaim and awards from all over the world. It has received awards like Best Documentary Diamond Award and has been officially selected at Kendal Mountain Film Festival. Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)'s official FIFA TV also featured a special report on Sunakali, titled "Meet the 'Himalayan Messi'" on August 21, 2016.)

The 2019 South Asian Games, officially the XIII South Asian Games, was a major multi-sport event which was originally slated to be held from 9 to 18 March 2019 in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal. However, the dates were postponed and the event was held from 1–10 December 2019, coincidentally at the same time as the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. The new dates were confirmed at the South Asian Olympic Council Executive Board meeting in Bangkok on 1 March 2019. The Dasarath Stadium hosted the opening ceremony along with the men's football tournament, with the stadium's renovation after the 2015 earthquake completed in under 10 months with an increased capacity of 20,000, along with the closing ceremony on 10 December.
