The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA, Polish: Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej) is a governmental agency in Poland established to carry out tasks related to the academic mobility between Poland and other countries. Since November 2018 the agency is part of Academic Cooperation Association. [1] It primarily provides grants to individuals and organizations rather than through its own staff. [2]
NAWA was founded partially out of concerns about brain drain from Poland. [2] The legislation to create NAWA was prepared by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. [2] NAWA was created by an legislation from 7 July 2017 [3] [4] and began operating on 1 October 2017. [5] Changes to the authorizing legislation were made in 2018 and 2019. [6]
Grażyna Żebrowska, a physicist, was appointed director of NAWA on May 8, 2020. [7] [8]
NAWA improves Polish education by facilitating the integration of Polish universities with academics worldwide by arranging conferences, facilitating cooperation on international research projects, and assisting foreign students. [9] [5] NAWA provides scholarships to people of Polish ancestry to study in Poland. [10] NAWA funds research performed by Polish Universities in partnership with foreign collaborators. [11] [12] NAWA encourages Polish scientists living abroad to return to the country. NAWA supports foreign scientists to do post-doctoral work in Poland. Alternately, NAWA provides funding for Polish scientists to do internships abroad. [5] NAWA funds student support services for foreign students in Poland. [11]
NAWA provides both Polish and foreign students, researchers and higher education institutions with scholarships and grants in four different fields, with the main focus on mobility:
Additionally, the agency disseminates information about the Polish system of tertiary education and science. [13]
NAWA also serves to improve the international public relations of Poland. [8]
NAWA runs two campaigns promoting Poland abroad at the moment.
The Ready, Study, Go! Poland (RSGP) campaign [14] is aiming at delivering the information about Poland as a prospective study and research destination to all candidates in the world.
Research in Poland campaign promotes Poland as a perfect destination for researchers and university graduates willing to start or continue their research career abroad.
NAWA is overseen by the Minister of Science and Higher Education. [5] [2] The director is appointed by the Prime Minister. NAWA's Council is an advisory body which makes proposals for the organization's direction and development. [2]
Stanisław Kot was a Polish historian and politician. A native of the Austrian partition of Poland, early in life he was attracted to the cause of Polish independence. As a professor of the Jagiellonian University (1920–1933), he held the chair of the History of Culture. His principal expertise was in the politics, ideologies, education, and literature of the 16th- and 17th-century Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He is particularly known for his contributions to the study of the Reformation in Poland.

The Załuski Library established in Warsaw in 1747 by Józef Andrzej Załuski and his brother, Andrzej Stanisław Załuski, both Roman Catholic bishops, was a public library nationalized and renamed upon its founders' death into the Załuski Library of the Republic which existed until the final demise of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the Third Partition of Poland in 1795.
Strzelno is a town in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. The town is located 18 km (11.18 mi) south of Inowrocław. According to the June 2005 Census, the population numbered 22,486. It is located in the historic region of Kuyavia. In local baptism records from 1792, the town is spelled as Strzellno.
Stanisław Marian Kutrzeba (1876–1946) was a Polish historian and politician who was Professor of the Jagiellonian University from 1908, and then until the end of his life the Chair of Studies in Polish law. He was chair of the Law Department, university's rector (1932/33), General Secretary of Polish Academy of Learning (1926–39) and its president (1939–1946). He was one of many professors of Jagiellonian University arrested by Nazis during Sonderaktion Krakau in 1939. After being freed in 1940, he took part in the underground education. In 1945, he was deputy to the State National Council.
The Ministry of National Education is a ministerial department of the government of Poland, established on 1 January 2024 after being separated from the Ministry of Education and Science. The ministry's prerogatives include setting educational standards and youth activities. It does not oversee higher education, which falls under Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The two were created in May 2006 by splitting the Ministry of Education and Science. In January 2021, the two were merged, only to be separated again in 2024.
