Poltroon was an event horse ridden[ when? ] by American rider Torrance Watkins. [1] Polroon and Torrance competed at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow winning a bronze Medal. [2] This was particularly notable due Poltroon's diminutive size for an event horse and that this was the first time a woman had won an Olympic Medal for eventing. [3] Poltroon was a 15.1h Paint mare who went on to become a broodmare in her retirement.

He began college at Iowa State University, but left in his third year to train full-time with the United States Equestrian Team. In 1974, he married, and his two children were born in 1976 and 1977. His son, Bruce Davidson Jr., has followed in his footsteps to become a top eventing rider.
