Tyresa Smith was the 18th overall pick in the 2007 WNBA draft and was selected in the second round by the Phoenix Mercury. Smith was selected from the University of Delaware where she was the team's second all-time leading scorer and became the first player from UD to be drafted in the WNBA draft. In 2007, she was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Defensive Player Of The Year, led the CAA in scoring, and was named First Team All-CAA after averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game. She was also the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2006. On August 19, 2007 she was signed by the Detroit Shock.

Polytech High School is located in Woodside, Delaware. It was a vocational school starting in the 1960s and changed to a full-time high school in 1991. Polytech admits students from Kent County through a lottery system. At Polytech 9th grade students go through a shop rotation, choosing a shop to major in during their high school years.

The Henlopen Conference is a high school sports conference comprising public schools in Kent County and Sussex County in lower Delaware. The teams participate in a variety of sports including football, boys and girls soccer, track and field, cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls indoor track, boys and girls outdoor track, wrestling, boys and girls lacrosse, baseball, softball, cheerleading, boys and girls swimming, and field hockey.

Tairawhiti Polytechnic was a public New Zealand tertiary education institution. The main campus is based in Gisborne in the North Island.
