Povo Livre (English: Free People) is a Portuguese language weekly newspaper published in Portugal.
Povo Livre was established shortly after the Portuguese press was freed from censorship on 25 March 1974. [1] The paper is the official organ of the Social Democratic Party [2] and is based in Lisbon. [2]
In the 1970s Rui Machete served as the editor of the weekly.[ citation needed ]
The Social Democratic Party is a liberal-conservative political party in Portugal. Commonly known by its colloquial initials PSD, on ballot papers its initials appear as its official form PPD/PSD, with the first three letters coming from the party's original name, the Democratic People's Party. A party of the centre-right, the PSD is one of the two major parties in Portuguese politics, its rival being the Socialist Party (PS) on the centre-left.

Manuel António Ribeiro was a Portuguese writer, poet, and relevant political figure during the First Portuguese Republic. He is known for his role as an active proponent of syndicalism in the early 20th century, as the founder of the first Bolshevist organisation in Portugal, as well as one of the first organisers of the Portuguese Communist Party.
