Pragathy Guruprasad is a Singaporean-American playback singer who has worked in Indian Tamil-language films. Brought up in Fremont, California, she finished as a runner-up in the Airtel Super Singer Junior 3 show, which aired from October 17, 2011 to October 26, 2012.

Personal life

Pragathi Guruprasad was born to Guruprasad and Kanaka on 14 September 1997 in an Tamil Singaporean family, and she has an elder sister, Saiprithvi. In Singapore, her father taught Carnatic lessons, and since at the age of five, Pragathi had also begun training in carnatic music. Her family subsequently relocated to Fremont, California where she continued learning Carnatic and Hindustani music from both her father at first and then from a teacher, Sangeetha Swaminathan, a disciple of Sudha Raghunathan.

Career

In July 2014, she signed on to make her acting debut by portraying a supporting role in Bala's Tharai Thappattai (2016), but later opted out owing to her college commitments. [1] In September 2016, Bala later announced that she would portray the lead role in his next project starring actor Yuvan. However the film was eventually shelved before production began. [2]

In 2020, she made an appearance in a small role in the American comedy drama Never Have I Ever . [3] Pragathi sang the popular Tamil Sangam poetry 'Yayum Ngayum' for the album Sandham: Symphony Meets Classical Tamil by Composer Rajan Somasundaram, which in July 2020, was featured in Amazon's Top#10 International Music albums.

Tharai Thappattai or Thaarai Thappattai is a 2016 Tamil-language musical art film written, produced and directed by Bala. The film features M. Sasikumar and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the leading roles, while Ilaiyaraaja composed the film's music based on karakattam. This film also happened to be Ilaiyaraaja's 1000th film. It is based on Sangam period ancient Tamil poetry and the first ever music album on Sangam poetry. The Hindu music review called the album "A Major Event in the World of Music". As of 15 July 2020, the album got into Amazon's Top#10 best seller list under International Music category.

Sahana is an Indian Tamil-language TV series produced by K. Balachander. It is a sequel to the 1985 film Sindhu Bhairavi which Balachander directed. The first episode was aired on Jaya TV on 24 February 2003.

Teejay Arunasalam is British playback singer and actor who has worked in Indian cinema, particularly Tamil language films. After making his acting debut in the Tamil film Asuran (2019) alongside Dhanush, he has also appeared in significant roles in Thatrom Thookrom (2020), anthology web series Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa (2022), and in Pathu Thala (2023) with Silambarasan.
