Kanpur ( ),formerly anglicized as Cawnpore,is the largest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was the primary financial and commercial centre of Northern India. Founded in the year 1207 by a Rajput ruler Raja Kanh Deo,Kanpur became one of the most important commercial and military stations of British India. Kanpur is often regarded as the heart of Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur had been the major financial and industrial centre of North India and also the ninth-largest urban economy in India. Murli Manohar Joshi is an Indian politician. He is one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of which he was the President between 1991 and 1993. Joshi is the former Member of Parliament from Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency. He is a former professor of physics in University of Allahabad. He is one of the senior most leaders of the BJP and one of the founding members. Joshi later became the Union Human Resources &Development Minister in the National Democratic Alliance government. Joshi was awarded Padma Vibhushan,the second-highest civilian award,in 2017 by the Government of India. Joshi has been a member of RSS since his college days.

He was appointed president of Delhi BJP on 2 June 2020 by the National President of the BJP,Jagat Prakash Nadda,following the resignation of Manoj Tiwari. On 11th December 2022,he stepped down from the post of State BJP President after the party's loss in the MCD Elections of 2022. He was replaced by Virendra Sachdeva.
Vikas Dubey was a notorious Indian gangster-turned-politician,crime boss,mobster and history-sheeter from Kanpur,Uttar Pradesh particularly infamous for the Bikroo case in July 2020. He was commonly known as "Vikas Pandit",naming himself after the titular character of the 1999 film Arjun Pandit,played by Sunny Deol. He was also alternatively referred to as "Pandit Ji" locally.
