Ritlal Yadav or Ritlal Ray is a leader of RJD who won the Bihar Legislative Council election in July 2015 as an independent candidate. Ritlal was in jail in connection with multiple criminal cases,including murder charges. Ritlal is accused in over 33 cases. He was a former Member of Legislative Council (MLC),the post,to which he was elected in 2016. He was incarcerated in Beur Jail until August 2020. However he was then released from the jail on bail. Ritlal Yadav defeated BJP's Asha Devi Sinha in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.

An erstwhile member of Janata Dal (United);he won the 2015 Legislative Assembly election to the Tekari constituency by defeating Anil Kumar of Hindustani Awam Morcha,a political party led by former Bihar Chief Minister,Jitan Ram Manjhi. He defeated Anil Kumar by a huge margin of votes. While Abhay secured 86,975 votes,Anil managed to get 55,162 votes only. In 2024 Indian general election,he won the Aurangabad,Bihar Lok Sabha constituency by defeating BJP's four term member of parliament,Sushil Kumar Singh. He contested on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in this election.

In 2015 assembly elections,he defeated Ram Dev Varma of Communist Party of India (Marxist). However,in 2020 assembly elections,he lost to Ajay Kumar of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He has also served on the key position of the ruling party JDU,which includes the General Secretary of Bihar wing of Janata Dal (United).

In the 2015 elections,Kumar secured 81,557 votes,and the margin of his victory was nine percent votes more than his opponent. In 2020 Bihar Assembly elections,Kumar was pitted against Mithilesh Kumar of Bhartiya Janata Party;latter was able to defeat him with a margin of 11,475 votes. It was believed by the poll strategists that Kumar will get the votes from Other Backward Class and Muslims,while his opponent would be supported by Forward Castes. However,in the final counting of votes,Kumar was defeated.

Mahato was associated with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and recognised as an influential leader of the Mithilanchal region of Bihar. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections,he left the BJP and contested the elections of the Madhubani constituency as an independent candidate,as this constituency was allotted to Vikassheel Insaan Party in a seat sharing arrangement. He returned to the BJP in 2022.

He is also a politburo member of CPI(ML)L. In 2024 Indian general election,he defeated Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh with a margin of over one lakh votes to win Karakat Lok Sabha constituency. He stood first in the triangular electoral contest involving National Democratic Alliance candidate and Rashtriya Lok Morcha president,Upendra Kushwaha and Pawan Singh.
