Premi Vishwanath is an Indian television actress from Kerala who predominantly appears in Malayalam and Telugu television shows and films. She is known for her role as Karthika/Karthu in the soap opera Karuthamuthu , which premiered on Asianet and also for portraying Deepa in the Telugu serial Karthika Deepam on Star Maa.

Acting career

Premi Vishwanath began her career in Malayalam Tv industry through Karuthamuthu,in which she played the lead role of Karthika Balanchandran. Premi's portrayal of a dark-skinned girl in television broke all conventional beauty concepts in Malayalam television history and Karthika became a well-known household name. [1] [2] She won the Best Debutante Female in the 2014 Asianet Film Awards for her role as Karthika. After being replaced by Renu Soundar in Karuthamuthu, she went on to play Mayilamma in the show Moonumani, which aired on Flowers (TV series) channel. She continued her career with Malayali series, until she got a huge break in the Telugu television industry. She gained popularity for playing Deepa in the Telugu remake of Karuthamuthu called Karthika Deepam (Telugu TV series). Karthika Deepam ran from 16 October 2017 till 23 January 2023 on Star Maa. Deeming the show's popularity and her role as Deepa, a spiritual sequel and second season of Karthika Deepam started airing on 25 March 2024. She is currently portraying the role of Deepa in Karthika Deepam 2, which is a remake of the series Chellamma (TV series).

She is a relative of actor Jayasurya. [3]
