Quinton Armani Gardner (born May 10, 1996), professionally known as Pressa, is a rapper and singer from Toronto. [4]

Early life

Quinton Armani Gardner was born a male on May 10, 1996, in Toronto, Ontario to a Filipino mother and a Jamaican father. He was five weeks old when his father was sentenced to 15 years in prison for second-degree murder, which left his mother to care for him and his older brother. [5] He grew up in an area known as Driftwood in the Jane and Finch neighbourhood of Toronto. [6]

Career

2016–2018

Gardner rose to prominence after the release of his hit single "Novacane", which was produced by frequent collaborator Murda Beatz. [7] In 2017, he opened for Drake on his Boy Meets World Tour despite being on bail for kidnapping allegations, and was featured in 6ix Rising , a Canadian documentary film about the hip hop culture in Canada. Later that year, he gained significant attention for his unique flow on his single "Canada Goose" featuring Tory Lanez, which was released in December. [8] [9] [10] Pressa has also worked with overseas artists including British rapper Giggs, releasing the single "Sexy" in April 2017, and he was featured in K Koke's single "D Ting Set" in the same year. [11] [12] In October 2018, Pressa released the single "420 in London" featuring Lil Uzi Vert. [13] He was featured on the song "Up & Down" by 6ixBuzz alongside Houdini, which amassed over 1 million views on YouTube within the 1st month of release. [14] [15]

2019–present

In 2019, Gardner released Prestige, an album named after his father, which debuted at the number 1 spot on the iTunes Canada hip hop music charts. [16] It featured appearances from Burna Bandz as well as Lil Richie. Pressa collaborated with British rapper Russ and Taze on the single "Vida Loca", released in July 2019. [17] Pressa's latest single, "O.T.M. (Out The Mud)", was released on February 7, 2020, via WorldStarHipHop. [18]

In May 2020, he signed with Sony Music Canada, in conjunction with Blue Feathers Records, coinciding with his release of his single "96 Freestyle". [19]

Personal life

As of 2019, Gardner is currently living in Los Angeles, California, having been relocated from Toronto. [6] In April 2021, he began a relationship with Coi Leray another rising artist known as the daughter of Hip Hop mogul & former CEO of The Source Magazine Benzino. [20]

Omar Jeffery Pineiro, known professionally as Smokepurpp, is an American rapper. In March of that year, he signed with Alamo and Interscope Records to release the song and his debut mixtape for which it served as lead single, Deadstar (2017), the following September. Halal Gang is a Canadian hip hop collective based in Toronto, Ontario. The name stems from the preponderance of the group having Muslim origins with East African and Caribbean Canadian roots. Initially the group is said to have stemmed out from a gang participating in criminal activity. The group was established in 2010 as a group of youths from Regent Park inspired to make music. This was followed by the singles "Myself" and "Backseat". He was also known for his frequent collaborations with fellow rappers Pressa, Robin Banks and NorthSideBenji, which includes the latter's certified gold single "Levels" which saw a feature from Houdini. He released his debut mixtape Hou I Am on February 13, 2019. His sophomore mixtape Hou Woulda Thought followed on August 2, 2019. His debut EP underGROUND was released on March 18, 2020. This would be his last release during his lifetime as he was shot and killed on May 26, 2020.

Tory Lester Zellars, better known by his stage name Yung Tory and nickname, Mr. Yaw Yaw, is a Canadian rapper from Mississauga, Ontario. He grew up in Roche court, not Toronto as people say. Tory initially signed to Lil Durk’s record label OTF in 2015, but after gaining recognition in 2018 he signed into a joint venture deal with Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group and Def Jam Recordings a year later. He released his debut album Rastar in early 2019.

Whiss also appeared on the Noisey documentary 6IX RISING (2017), which showcased hip hop culture in Canada. He is one-third of the hip hop collective Prime Boys, alongside Jimmy Prime and Donnie. 6IX RISING: Toronto’s Rap Ascendence is a Canadian documentary film about the hip hop culture in Canada. The film was directed by Shawney Cohen and released on November 16, 2017. It was distributed by Vice Media's online channel Noisey and made in collaboration with Nicolas Girard and Rafael Ruiz for Worship Studio.

Jaiden Anthony Watson, better known by his stage name NorthSideBenji, is a Canadian rapper and musician from Brampton, Ontario. Benji gained recognition from his Certified Gold single "Levels", which featured Toronto rapper Houdini. The single was released in December 2018, and was the only supporting single of his debut extended play, Caviar Dreams, which was released on January 18, 2019. He released his second EP Frienemy on September 6, 2019.

Coi Leray Collins is an American rapper and singer from Hackensack, New Jersey. The daughter of rapper and media executive Benzino, she began her musical career in 2018 with the release of her debut mixtape, Everythingcoz. She signed with Karriem Mack's 1801 Records and UMG Recordings imprints Uptown Records and Republic Records to release her second mixtape EC2 (2019) and debut extended play, Now or Never (2020). In 2021, the Lil Durk remix of her song "No More Parties" peaked within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 and received double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
