Kevin Georgiou (born 22 May 1985), known professionally as K Koke, is an English-Irish-Cypriot rapper. His Fire in the Booth freestyle on Charlie Sloth's show on BBC Radio 1Xtra has over 20 million YouTube views. [1] [2]

Music career

His first mixtape, Pure Koke Volume One, was available free on various online outlets. Following radio play, he signed a deal with Roc Nation. [3] [4] [5]

At the time of signing to Roc Nation, Georgiou was preparing to release Pure Koke Volume Two. He released visuals for singles "Nobody But Us" featuring Abel Miller, "Lord Knows" featuring Don Jaga and "Streets Are Cold" which features Birmingham's UK rap veteran Malik MD7. However, his music career was stopped abruptly when he was arrested for attempted murder in 2011.

Georgiou was later dropped from Roc Nation and in 2015 signed with Universal Music.

Attempted murder trial

Georgiou was charged with the attempted murder of an unidentified 27-year-old football player at Harlesden station on 9 March 2011 along with associate named Levi who was remanded in custody pending trial in October 2011. [6] [7] The victim was shot in the back. [6] Georgiou stood trial on 4 October 2011 and was acquitted of all charges on 3 November 2011 after seven months on remand. [8]

American Gangster is the tenth studio album by American rapper Jay-Z. It was conceived as a concept album—inspired by the 2007 film of the same name—and was released on November 6 of that year through Roc-A-Fella Records. The album features production from Diddy & the Hitmen, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Danja and the Neptunes, among others. It also includes guest appearances by Beanie Sigel, Lil Wayne, Pharrell, and Nas. The album's production is built around 1970s soul and funk, with instruments featured on the album played by professional musicians including, horns, string arrangements, drummers, and unconventional percussion created with bottles. The album's theme is based around the gangster lifestyle, the American Dream, and Jay-Z's memories of growing up in Brooklyn, New York's Marcy.

It was founded by English rapper Kwasi Danquah III and EMI Music Publishing's UK president and EMI European creative president, Guy Moot, as a publishing arm solely for Danquah's music in December 2008.

"Gotta Have It" is a song by American hip hop artists Kanye West and Jay-Z from their collaborative album Watch the Throne (2011). The song was produced by West and The Neptunes, and samples three original compositions by James Brown: "Don't Tell a Lie About Me and I Won't Tell the Truth About You", "People Get Up and Drive Your Funky Soul" and "My Thang". The song explores themes of wealth, decadence and the economic stature in the US. Active in the late 1980s through the 1990s, he became known in retrospect as the mentor of fellow Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z. Burks, nicknamed "the Originator", debuted the artist on his 1986 single "H. P. Gets Busy". Burks signed with EMI to release three studio albums: Word to the Jaz (1989), To Your Soul (1990) and Kingz Kounty (2002).
