Adedapo Benjamin Adelegan Loudspeaker.svg Listen (born April 20, 1962) is a Nigerian politician and entrepreneur who was the 14th president and chairman of the council of the Nigeria British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), [1] a fellow and executive member, Institute of Directors, counsel of member, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a Gubernatorial candidate [2] [3] for the Ondo State Election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Early life

He was the convener of the popular Lekki Sunsplash musical concert, [4] Africas biggest musical event in 1988. The event has the likes of Raskimono, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Daniel Wilson, Majek Fashek, Alex Zitto, Kwam1, and more in Attendance. The popular comedian, Alibaba worked briefly with Adedapo as an executive assistant in 1991. [5]

He organized the first Nigeria Exhibition in South Africa in the year 2004 called "The Best of Nigeria comes to South Africa" [6] which he did with his company PR Africa.

He is from Owo, Ondo State, a kinsman to the current Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

Politics

Adedapo Adelegan [7] emerged the governorship candidate [2] of the African Democratic Congress in Ondo State for the October 10, 2020, election.

He joined the All Progressive Congress Ondo State chapter briefly when he decided to get on the race. He left the party when the National Working Committee of the party changed the structure of the Primaries election from direct to indirect form of voting, knowing it was an agenda to give the incumbent the ticket. [8]

Personal life

Adedapo is married to Abimbola Adelegan and they have three children. He is a devout Christian.

The 2012 Ondo State gubernatorial election occurred on October 20, 2012. Incumbent governor, LP's Olusegun Mimiko won election for a second term, defeating other party candidates. Mimiko received 43.79% of the total vote and won in 13 of the state's 18 LGAs, closely followed by PDP's Olusola Oke who won in two LGAs with 26.25% of total votes, while the ACN candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, who won in three LGAs came third with 24.15% of the votes. Mimiko becomes the first Incumbent governor of Ondo State to be re-elected.

The 2003 Ondo State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003. PDP's Olusegun Agagu, a former Deputy Governor to Bamidele Olumilua, won election for a first tenure, defeating Incumbent Governor, AD's Adebayo Adefarati and three other candidates.

The 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Lagos State, concurrent with elections to the Lagos State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is eligible to run for re-election and has been renominated by his party.
