Priya Munasinghe was a Sri Lankan born Motor Racing champion, [1] [2] [3] [4] who dominated the regional Motor Sports scene of Sri Lanka, India and Malaysia from mid 1960s to 1977. [5] [6] [7]
Priya Munasinghe was educated at Ananda College Colombo. Priya excelled in cricket and long distance running (Athletics) at Ananda College. He held the public school 110 metre hurdles record for nine years. [8]
Priya Munasinghe functioned as the Secretary of Sri Lanka Association of Motor Sports (which was the governing body for Motor Sports in Sri Lanka at that time) at the time of his death. He was also a past President and Vice President of Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC) and Upcountry Motor Sports Club (UMSC) on several occasions throughout the last 18 years of his life. After retiring from active participation in 1977, he worked in the administration side of Motor Sports. Priya Munasinghe was a founding member of Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) in 1983. [9] [10] [11] [12]
Nuwara Eliya is a city in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Its name means "city on the plain " or "city of light". The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. The Upali Group which diversified from confectionery to electronics and automobile manufacturing, publishing, print media, leisure and aviation developed many of its own brands such as Kandos, Delta, Unic, Upali Air, Upali Mazda and Upali Newspapers which Insight Magazine UK said was achieved "largely through bravado and wit".
Nuwara Eliya electoral district is one of the 22 multi-member electoral districts of Sri Lanka created by the 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka. The district is conterminous with the administrative district of Nuwara Eliya in the Central province. The district currently elects 7 of the 225 members of the Sri Lankan Parliament and had 457,137 registered electors in 2010.

Galway's Land National Park is a small 27 ha (0.10 sq mi) national park, consisting of dense montane forest. It is located within the city limits of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka, approximately 2 km (1 mi) east of the city centre. It was formally declared as a wildlife sanctuary on 27 May 1938. The Galway's Land was elevated to national park status on 18 May 2006. The park was declared to conserve the montane ecosystems. Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka considers that Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya and Galway's Land are two of the most significant birding sites in Sri Lanka. Galway's Land harbours about 20 rare migrant bird species and 30 native species. Apart from the avifauna, the park has valuable floral species of both native and foreign origin. Galway Forest Lodge is located close to the park.
Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) is a national governing body of tennis in Sri Lanka, which represents Sri Lanka on associations like the International Tennis Federation and the Asian Tennis Federation. Walapane is a town located in Nuwara Eliya District of Sri Lanka. It is a high country area with many green mountains. It was called Wathtumulla in the past. The name Watumulla derived from the former tea factory which was located in the heart of the Walapane town and now demolished since the production of Wattumulla Plantation declined. Nuwara Eliya Racecourse in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka is the only remaining horse racing venue in Sri Lanka. Situated 1,868 metres (6,129 ft) above sea level the race course is one of the highest in the world. The track has a circumference of 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) with a 333-metre straight.
Justice Hettikankanange Nalin Jayalath Perera is a Sri Lanka judge who served as the 46th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
Ananda Wedisinghe was a Sri Lankan motor racing legend and eight time Fox Hill Supercross motorcycle national champion of Sri Lanka. He hailed from Kurunegala and is credited as the pioneer of Sri Lankan motorcross racing. He died at age 47 due to injuries sustained to his head and leg following a motor cycle crash during a Nuwara Eliya road race held on 23 April 2017.
