"Process" (catalogue number "O-Ton 109") is the 2017 debut EP by the techno group LSD, formed that year by Luke Slater, Steve Bicknell, and Function (aka Dave Sumner). [1] The tracks described as focused on "the psychedelic aspects of techno", [2] and an "interpretation of stroboscopic intensity on the summit of psychedelic experiences - permeated with moments of hypnotic and atonal melodies". [3]

Extended play Musical recording longer than a single, but shorter than a full album

An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album. An EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) and LP, but it is now applied to mid-length CDs and downloads as well.

Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States in the mid-to-late 1980s. Techno is generally repetitive instrumental music, often produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythm is often in common time (4/4), while the tempo typically varies between 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm). Artists may use electronic instruments such as drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers, as well as digital audio workstations. Drum machines from the 1980s such as Roland's TR-808 and TR-909 are highly prized, and software emulations of such retro instruments are popular.

Luke Slater is an English electronic musician, DJ and record producer, who has concentrated on techno since the beginning of the 1990s. He achieved break through commercial success with his tracks "Love" (1997) and "All Exhale" (1999).

The three producers had worked together at various points over the previous 25 years; Slater and Bicknell remixed various of each others tracks during the early 1990s, Bicknell and Sumner had performed live together, [3] while Sumner appears on a 2015 release from Slater's 'LB Dub Corp' project. [4] The EP was proceeded by live concerts in 2016 at the Amsterdam Dance Event [5] and at Berghain in Berlin. [3]

A remix is a piece of media which has been altered or contorted from its original state by adding, removing, and changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, books, video, poem, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new.

Berghain nightclub in Berlin

Berghain is a nightclub in Berlin, Germany. It is named after its location near the border between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain in Berlin, and is a short walk from Berlin Ostbahnhof main line railway station. An American journalist described Berghain in 2007 as "quite possibly the current world capital of techno, much as E-Werk or Tresor were in their respective heydays".

"Process" was released as a 12 inch on 17 November 2017 [6] by the German label, Ostgut Ton, [7] with sleeve art-work by Brazilian-born New York-based artist Eli Sudbrack, aka Assume Vivid Astro Focus. [6]

Twelve-inch single vinyl single; type of physical music format

The twelve-inch single is a type of gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time compared to LPs. This allows for louder levels to be cut on the disc by the mastering engineer, which in turn gives a wider dynamic range, and thus better sound quality. This record type is commonly used in disco and dance music genres, where DJs use them to play in clubs. They are played at either 33 13 or 45 rpm.

A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. Sometimes, a record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos, while also conducting talent scouting and development of new artists, and maintaining contracts with recording artists and their managers. The term "record label" derives from the circular label in the center of a vinyl record which prominently displays the manufacturer's name, along with other information. Within the mainstream music industry, recording artists have traditionally been reliant upon record labels to broaden their consumer base, market their albums, and be both promoted and heard on music streaming services, radio, and television. Record labels also provide publicists, who assist performers in gaining positive media coverage, and arrange for their merchandise to be available via stores and other media outlets.

Ostgut Ton is the label owned by the club Berghain in Berlin. A.J. Samuels is the label manager.

Record producer Individual who oversees and manages the recording of an artists music

A record producer or music producer oversees and manages the sound recording and production of a band or performer's music, which may range from recording one song to recording a lengthy concept album. Follow up

The song titles follow on directly after "Process 3, are numered "Process 4" to "Process 9". After tracks were pre-released on SoundCloud, they were described as "melodic and mind-melting techno with surreal atmospheres and propulsive drum-programming." [2]
