Profronde van Almelo (English: Prof tour of Almelo) is an elite men's and women's professional road bicycle racing event held annually in Almelo, Netherlands. The first edition was in 1983 and since 2008 the event also includes a women's race. In 1987 and 1988 the race was a stage within the Ronde van Nederland, a UCI category 2.1 event. [1] [2]

Almelo is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek.

Gerard Veldscholten is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer. In 1985 he placed 2nd in the Dutch National Championship and also performed well in the 1985 UCI Road World Championships finishing within the group just three seconds behind winner Joop Zoetemelk. In 1988 he finished 7th in Paris–Roubaix and won the Tour de Romandie.
The 2006 World University Cycling Championship is the 4th Word University Cycling Championship sponsored by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Cycling made his comeback after a 16-year absence as a university sport. The championship took place in Antwerp and Herentals, Belgium from March 22 to March 26, 2006. The city of Herentals is located in the geographic region of Campine, which is well known for cyclo-cross. The championship included 119 athletes and 54 officials from 17 countries. Athletes contested in a cyclo-cross race for men and four road cycling disciplines: a road race and an individual time trial for both men and women.
Vrienden van het Platteland was a Dutch UCI women's road cycling team that existed in the 2000–2008 road cycling seasons.
The 2013 EPZ Omloop van Borsele is the 11th running of the Omloop van Borsele, a women's cycling event in 's-Heerenhoek, the Netherlands. For women's there was an individual time trial over 19.5 kilometres on 19 April and a road race over 120 kilometres on 20 April 2013. The race was rated by the UCI as 1.2 category race.
The Parel van de Veluwe was an amateur road bicycle race held in the Netherlands for men and women, that was held between 1985 and 2019. After not being held in 2020, race organisers Wielervereniging De IJsselstreek announced that December that they would no longer organise the race.

Profronde van Tiel is an elite men's and women's professional road bicycle racing event held annually in Tiel, Netherlands after the Tour de France. Since 2013 the event also includes a women's race. In 2018 the organizers announced that the race would not be held in that year and would possibly not come back in the near future.
Peter Pieters is a retired Dutch cyclist who was active between 1980 and 1998. On track, he competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the individual 4 km pursuit and points race, and won a bronze medal in the points race at the 1991 world championships. On the road, he won the Delta Profronde (1988), Paris–Tours (1988), Profronde van Almelo (1990) and Ronde van de Haarlemmermeer (1996), as well as individual stages of the Olympia's Tour (1983), Vuelta a Burgos (1984), Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen (1984), Vuelta a Murcia (1985), Tour of Belgium (1988) and Tour of Sweden (1992). After retiring from competition he worked as a cycling coach, in particular he was successful with the Belgian national team: in 2017 the Belgium national team brought home the highest number of medals in 50 years.
