Protection is a British crime drama television series made for ITV. It was released in the United States on BritBox in on 29 December 2024, and is due to be released on ITV and ITV in the UK sometime in 2025.

Synopsis

Protection explores the world of witness protection in the UK from the point of view of a police officer, DI Liz Nyles. [1]

Cast

Production

The series was written by Australian writer Kris Mrksa, who had written for Underbelly and Glitch . [2] She drew from first-hand accounts by a 30-year veteran of witness protection specialist for the Metropolitan Police in which they handled cases including police informants, war criminals, and terrorists. [3]

The six-part series is produced by New Pictures in association with All3Media International. Willow Grylls and Charlie Hampton serve as executive producers alongside Elaine Pyke and Kris Mrksa. The series is produced by Rebecca Davies. [3] [4]

Filming took place from July 2023 through to September 2023 in the north-west of England, with filming locations including Birkenhead, [5] Runcorn, [6] and Liverpool. [7]

Broadcast

The series premiered in the United States on Britbox on 29 December 2024, [8] and was released on Stan in Australia on 10 January 2025. [2]

It is expected to be released on ITV and ITV in the UK sometime in 2025. [9]

Murder City is a British crime drama series produced by Granada Television, first broadcast on 18 March 2004 on ITV, that focuses on two mismatched detectives, DI Susan Alembic and DS Luke Stone, who scour London solving complex cases. The first series consisted of six episodes. A second and final series of four episodes was subsequently commissioned and began broadcast on 5 April 2006. Following declining viewership, a third series of Murder City was not commissioned. BBC America began airing the complete series on 17 August 2006, and it was subsequently released in a Region 1 four-disc DVD box set by Image Entertainment on 14 August 2007.

The Loch is a six-part British television drama series, created by screenwriter Stephen Brady, that first broadcast on ITV on 11 June 2017. Siobhan Finneran is an English actress who has worked in theatre, television and film. Finneran made her film debut starring as Rita in the 1987 film release Rita, Sue and Bob Too. Over the following decade, Finneran established herself as a television actress appearing frequently in both comedic and dramatic guest roles. Into the 21st century, Finneran began appearing in more regular and leading roles in returning and standalone television series. Her more prolific work includes Benidorm (2007–2015), Downton Abbey (2010–2012) and Happy Valley (2014–2023).

DI Ray is a 2022 British police procedural television series. It was created and written by Maya Sondhi and produced by Jed Mercurio. DI Ray stars Parminder Nagra as detective inspector Rachita Ray in a fictitious Birmingham-based police force. The cast also includes Gemma Whelan and Jamie Bamber. The first series of four episodes aired on ITV beginning 2 May 2022. The second series aired from 16 June 2024 in the United States and 20 October 2024 in the UK and in other territories.
