Purling Hiss is the eponymously titled debut studio album of Purling Hiss, released independently in 2009. [2] Permanent Records adopted the album and issued it on vinyl and repressed and re-issued it in 2014. Evan Minsker of Pitchfork Media called the album "a monster of blown-out, shredding, heavy psych music that consistently locks into a satisfying groove." [1]

Psycho-Head Blowout is the third EP by White Zombie, released in May 1987 by Silent Explosion. The album was recorded with producer and composer Kramer and was the band's first to feature guitarist Tom Guay, who had a pivotal influence on the band's sound. It was also the debut release of the band's short-lived label Silent Explosion. The record was the band's first release to receive critical notice and garnered them notice in underground circles.

Alec Reinstein, better known by his stage name Despot, is an American hip hop artist from Queens, New York City. He was signed to rapper El-P's label Definitive Jux in 2004. Despot has been a part of the New York underground rap scene for over a decade. Despot is associated with the Smart Crew collective and a co-owner of Santos Party House.
American singer and songwriter Sky Ferreira has released one studio album, three extended plays, 10 singles, three promotional singles, and 15 music videos. She signed a recording contract with Parlophone in 2009, and released the song "One" through the label in 2010. Preoccupations is a Canadian post-punk band from Calgary, Alberta, formed in 2012 under the name Viet Cong. The band consists of Matt Flegel, Scott Munro, Daniel Christiansen (guitar) and Mike Wallace (drums). The group's musical style has been described as "labyrinthine post-punk".

Purling Hiss is the rock music project of American multi-instrumentalist Mike Polizze. Based in Philadelphia, the project was named so because of its heavy use of distortion and white noise. Originally conceived for his own personal amusement and desire to experiment, Polizze eventually self-released Purling Hiss (2009) and began touring with a live band.

In his review for Pitchfork Media, Marc Masters said the album "indulges nicely in Polizze’s preferred tropes-- heavy guitar and a simple, lurching beat-- but eventually descends into an aural madness of searing distortion, echoing voices, and dislocated finger snaps."
