General Qadam Shah Shahim an Afghan diplomat and former army officer. He served as the Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army from May 2015 to April 2017 before resigning amid political fallout over the 2017 Camp Shaheen attack.
Shahim,an ethnic Tajik,was born in the Tashkan district of Badakhshan,in 1962 and attended Keshm High School,graduating in 1982. [3] [4]
From the early 1980s,Shahim fought with Jamiat-e Islami against the Soviets. He later fought against other mujahedin factions during the civil war,and then against the Taliban. In 1994,he was appointed as commander of 82 Regiment in Qargha,and in 1997 was made a Brigadier. In 2001,Shahim was commander of the 37th Brigade of Commandos and dealt often with foreign forces. [3]
In 2007,he commanded the 1st Brigade of the 111st Capital Division,based in Kabul. In 2011,he was appointed as commander of the 111st Capital Division,which is half the size of a normal division. Shahim was wounded in the July 2014 attack on Kabul Airport and hospitalised in Sardar Mohammad Daoud Khan hospital for further treatment. In May 2015,he was appointed as Chief of the General Staff of the Afghan National Army. [3] In August and September 2016,Shahim visited India in order to enhance ties with the Indian army and to seek new avenues for acquiring military equipment. [5]
The Durrani Empire,colloquially known as the Afghan Empire,or the Sadozai Kingdom,was an Afghan empire founded by the Durrani tribe of Pashtuns under Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1747,which spanned parts of Central Asia,the Iranian plateau,and the Indian subcontinent. At its peak,it ruled over present-day Afghanistan,much of Pakistan,parts of northeastern and southeastern Iran,eastern Turkmenistan,and northwestern India. Next to the Ottoman Empire,the Durrani Empire is considered to be among the most significant Islamic empires of the second half of the 18th century.
The Islamic National Army,also referred to as the Islamic Emirate Army and the Afghan Army,is the land force branch of the Afghan Armed Forces. The roots of an army in Afghanistan can be traced back to the early 18th century when the Hotak dynasty was established in Kandahar followed by Ahmad Shah Durrani's rise to power. It was reorganized in 1880 during Emir Abdur Rahman Khan's reign. Afghanistan remained neutral during the First and Second World Wars. Defectors such as Rashid Dostum and Abdul Momim allied with Ahmad Shah Massoud and Ali Mazari forming the Northern Alliance. The alliance's capture of Mazar-i-Sharif and more importantly the supplies kept there crippled the Afghan military and began the end of Najibullah's government. Following the collapse of Najibullah's government the Alliance would fall with a Second Civil War breaking out however following the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's (Taliban) takeover of Kabul,The United Front was reassembled.

Bismillah Khan Mohammadi,or Bismillah Khan,is an Afghan politician who served as the defense minister of Afghanistan from 2012 to 2015 and for two months in 2021. From 2002 to 2010,he served as Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army,and from 2010 to 2012 he held the post of Interior Minister of Afghanistan. He has an anti-Taliban background and once served as a senior commander under Ahmad Shah Massoud. Despite the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in August 2021,Mohammadi claims to remain the minister of defense as part of the government of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan.
