General Sher Mohammad Karimi (born November 11,1945) was the Chief of Army Staff in the Military of Afghanistan. An ethnic Pashtun, [1] [2] Karimi was born in Khost Province of Afghanistan.
After the 1978 Saur Revolution in Afghanistan,Karimi was arrested and incarcerated by the Khalq faction of the PDPA communist party because of his Western education. He was employed as a director during Dr. Mohammad Najibullah Government in ministry of defence. Unlike many of his communist colleagues and the majority of the Afghan officer corps,Karimi had never received training in the Soviet Union. He was eventually forced into exile in Pakistan until the removal of the Taliban government in late 2001.
Karimi returned to his special-operations roots at Fort Bragg,North Carolina in February 2010. Previously,he served as the Chief of Operations for the Afghan Ministry of Defense. [3]

The Islamic National Army,also referred to as the Afghan Army,is the land force branch of the Afghan Armed Forces. The roots of an army in Afghanistan can be traced back to the early 18th century when the Hotak dynasty was established in Kandahar followed by Ahmad Shah Durrani's rise to power. It was reorganized in 1880 during Emir Abdur Rahman Khan's reign. Afghanistan remained neutral during the First and Second World Wars. From the 1960s to the early 1990s,the Afghan Army was equipped by the Soviet Union.

The 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) (7th SFG) (A) is an operational unit of the United States Army Special Forces activated on 20 May 1960. It was reorganized from the 77th Special Forces Group,which was also stationed at Fort Bragg,North Carolina. 7th Group—as it is sometimes called—is designed to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions:unconventional warfare,foreign internal defense,direct action,counter-insurgency,special reconnaissance,counter-terrorism,information operations,counterproliferation of weapons of mass destruction,and security force assistance. The 7th SFG(A) spends much of its time conducting foreign internal defense,counter-drug,and training missions of friendly governments' armed forces in South,Central,and North America as well as the Caribbean. 7th SFG(A) participated in Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983,and in Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. The 7th SFG(A) has,like all the SFGs,been heavily deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in the War on Terror. The 7th SFG has lost more SF soldiers in the Global War on Terrorism than any other SFG.

The Afghan National Army Commando Corps was a commando force of the Afghan National Army (ANA). During the Taliban insurgency,the commandos comprised 7% of the Afghan National Security Forces but conducted 70% to 80% of the fighting. The unit structure was based on the 75th Ranger Regiment.
