Qoriley is a town in the Sool region of Somaliland.
In 1997, the Baharsame clan in Qoriley and the Omar Mohamoud clan in Magaley were at odds over the construction of a concrete reservoir on suitable grazing land between the two towns, which led to a peace conference led by the Somali Salvation Democratic Front (later the Puntland government). [2] : 59
In May and June 2007, Ethiopian forces expelled residents from villages on the outskirts of the Wardel Zone (now the Dollo Zone) and burned them. Those who left the villages migrated to the central city of Werder, as well as to Walwal, Danood, and Qoriley. [3]

In August 2015, fighting broke out in Qoriley. According to witnesses, they were an armed group from Burtinle, Puntland. On September 22, 12 people were killed in the fighting. [5] At the end of September, Vice President Puntland visited Burtinle for mediation. [6] On October 2, Somaliland delegations visited Qoriley to mediate the inter-clan struggle. [7] On October 7, the government of Khatumo State also dispatched a representative. [8]
In late December 2017, fighting broke out between clans in Qoriley. [9] The fighting took place between Qoriley and Gumburka Cagaare of Ethiopia. [10] Fighting occurred at least twice, on December 19 and 23, killing at least 18 people. The two warring clans were the Omar Mahmud branch of the Majeerteen clan and the Baharsame branch of the Dhulbahante clan. Somaliland, Puntland, and Khatumo, who all declare territorial rights to the land, claimed that the fighting was not their fault. The cease-fire was effected through the armed intervention of the governments of those countries, local elders, and the Ethiopian police. [11]
In January 2018, the Somaliland Minister of Information announced that Somali federal government forces had attacked Qoriley and Tukaraq. [12] The Somaliland military used this as a reason to attack the checkpoint in Tukaraq, where Puntland customs officials are stationed. [13] The Battle of Tukaraq resulted in effective Somaliland control of Tukaraq.
In October 2019, the Somaliland government will build a health center in Qoriley, and the governor of Sool state and the mayor of Las Anod attended the groundbreaking ceremony. [14]
Sool is an administrative region (gobol) in eastern Somaliland/north western Somalia. It borders Togdheer to the west, Sanaag to the north, Ethiopia to the south and Nugal, Bari to the east. Its capital city is Las Anod. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo. The region is partially controlled by both polities.

Buuhoodle, also known as Bohotle, is the largest city in the togdheer region of Somalia. It serves as a significant border town for the movement of goods between Somalia and the Somali Region of Ethiopia. The surrounding district is rich in livestock with growing agricultural activities.

Ahmed Abdi Mohamud Sugulle "Habsade" is a Puntland and Somaliland politician. He was a decorated Colonel in the Somali Armed Forces and the second in command of the Somali Custodial Corps equivalent to that of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri but the Custodial Corps fall under the Ministry of the Interior and are part of the Police Force. A politician and respected elder later in life (he was instrumental in the founding of Somaliland and became the Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives. In 1998, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Puntland but was dismissed in 2007 after a conflict with Mohamud Muse Hersi, who became President of Puntland in 2006. In 2007, he brought Somaliland troops into Las Anod, leading to Somaliland's effective control of the Sool region. He served as various Somaliland Ministers of state from 2008. In 2014, Abdiweli Gaas became President of Puntland and he come back to Puntland.
Guumays (Guumeys) is a village in the Sool region currently under the control of Khatumo State forces.
Awrboogays(Awrbogays, Awr-boogays, Ar-boogays) is a town in south-central Sanaag in Somalia.
The Las Anod conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Somaliland National Army and the SSC-Khatumo forces of the Dhulbahante in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region. Fighting erupted on February 6 after Somaliland security forces held a violent crackdown on civil protests. On February 8, the supreme Garad of Dhulbahante, Garad Jama Garad Ali, declared an intent to secede and reunite with the Federal Government of Somalia.
